Color Wars
With the current OB vs. PG war still raging, I have a question to throw out -
How much time do you have to dedicate to cleaning your car on a weekly basis?
Follow that one up with -
How old are you and what are your current obligations; i.e. family, job, etc.
Twenty years ago, my car was washed weekly, waxed monthly, and probably fully detailed quarterly. Now with the wife, kids, and much more involved job responsibiities that go with the "privilege" of moving up the corporate ladder, I doubt if my car gets washed more than once a month, let alone waxed more than twice a year.
To the young guys, I know, and admit, that is blasphemy. It's just not the driving force in my life right now, so I lean towards the lighter colors - PG/AG/LG.
However saying that, I will acknowledge that NOTHING looks better than a clean black car. I just don't have the time to maintain one properly.

Well to start off, i own a black car.
I do have time to dedicate to cleaning the car weekly, but i find myself doing other things. I am 20 years old, and i am currently full time student and managing my own store.
honestly though, i drove my car off the dealership with swirls already present. Taking that into consideration, i already knew that it would be a major headache to try and keep it perfect, so i essentially gave up before even giving her the first wash.
I do have to agree, Black, when not directly in the sun does look spectacular... i wouldn't trade it for any other color.

I'm 48 with no kids and I basically maintain all 4 of our vehicles. My G is Platinum Graphite and I went with that color because it is a daily driver and knowing how **** I am about having a clean car it would drive me crazy to have it dirty especially in the winter when it would be difficult to get a bucket and hose to it. Additionally, I love the color and look of the stock wheels. They hardly ever show dirt!!
However, if it were a garage queen, I would have definitely gone black!!

23, Married, with a hyper daughter, work 8-5 in the corporate sector,
I enjoy detailing my car but it takes a lot of work. I don't half a** it. I am very **** about my car being dirty but sometimes it rains during the week and I really can't do anything about it. I never have time to wash until the weekend. My car gets washed every other weekend if it doesnt rain. I will get washed in between that schedule if it rains, or I have a car show, or I am going out of town and will be showing it off to family/friends.
Everytime I hand wash my car, I try to detail something different so that I don't have to do it all at once. So one time I will condition my leather, another vacuum, another condition and clean vinyl. I honestly don't have time to do it all at once nore do I want to. That is my secret to it always looking nice with little effort.
Quarterly, I will layer with another layer of polish and gloss for maintenance.
Twice a year, I will do a full 3 coats of polish, sealant, gloss, polish wheels, the works.

I am 20 and a student. I usually spend a good 1-2 hours detailing a week, if not more. I usually do a full wash, wax/polish and clean up the interior with z9/z10. But unfortunately, last week I didn't have time... so i gave it a quick rinse without anything at all... so I spend a pretty good amount of time with detailing... and yes i have the infamous BO..
im 19 and a college student...i also work 3-7 on T,TH and 9-7 M,W,F,Sat. so sunday is my only day off but im too lazy to wash and detail the car. it has been a month the last time i washed the car. i have no time what so ever to wash the car. if you have no time to wash OB on a weekly basic, i wouldnt buy it.

barely any. i take it to a hand wash once a week maybe.
25 - single, working shift work. but i live in a condo with no regular water hoses so it sucks for wanting to wash your own car.

as others have stated, nothing looks better than a clean, detailed black vehicle. truck, bike, car, whatever. classy, mean and sporty all in one. thats why its the color of choice for all the 'hollywood' folks. mind you, they don't have to clean it!
I have always looked at detailing vehicles (I have a G and 2 motorcycles) as a form of therapy. a case of beer to bide the time doesn't hurt either. I'm in my 40's so other than work this is where I spend my time. so every 2-3 weeks I wash/spritz my car and/or bikes. Living in So California doesn't hurt either. and about 2/yr i'll polish. although I had to break out the PC 7424 polisher/mezerna a few weeks ago because the dealer washed my car even tho I told them not too!
so if you don't like detailing your own car or have the time, black probably isn't for you. in the condo/townhouse complex where I live there usually is 2-3 of us doing this on the weekend. guy across from me has a 335, my other neighbor a lexus sedan (not sure what model). all black. fortunately we have our garages/water and can do this. it can be a 'bonding' experience!

Black Obsidian G37S
Just turned 27, no kids, rent house with the GF, work 9-5 in specialized industry.
2-bucket wash weekly or bi-weekly depending on thickness of dust layer.
The car doesn't actually get very dirty at all (I avoid puddles, parking under trees, etc), but it does get very dusty because of the desert, mountains and high winds in my area.
Working on a "waterless wash" method with quick detailer / blower / distilled/de-ionized water.
I'm going to have to stop you with that "when not directly in the sun" comment. Living proof, thanks to Concours Finish:

Rear-quarter in sunlight. Look at the Black Obsidian POP!

Hood, reflection in sunlight. And that's with Premier Films Clear Bra on it!

Door in direct sunlight--no shenanigans like playing with the shade to make it look better.
Yeah, I just got my car detailed so I'm showing it off. I love BO.
