Wax / Polish

Which do you guys use? Also can you use both? As in applying one coat of each? Which comes first?

polish first, then wax since wax doesn't bond onto the paint

i used blackfire polish and meguiar's tech wax 2.0 paste

A polish is typically removes imperfections. It really doensn't protect. A glaze is typically a filler to fill imperfections. A wax (or sealant) is the protector. The order is polish, glaze, and then wax/sealant.

Search the boards for preferences... I personally prefer Menzerna products, but the others such as Pinnacle, Blackfire, Poorboys, Zaino, etc are just a good. It's really up to the person and their preferences.

A glaze? I have never heard of that before? Can you give me an example of this product?

Not to be an *** but there is a whole Forum dedicated to this stuff. Just thought I iterate that since the mods did put up a notice about posting in the appropriate forum so 9999990 threads didn't have to be moved.

And just to ad value to the thread, remember to use a sealant every few months.

Right now I have a sealant called "Ultima" on my car with a topper of S100 Caranuba wax (same as the P21S previously mentioned). I think the detail guy used a light paint cleaner/polish by Ultima as well prior to the Ultima sealant.

For over-the-counter stuff, I think Meguiar's NXT is a decent product, but I haven't used the 2.0

Have you checked out www.autopia.org ? It'll help and make your head spin

today I washed my car, applied a polish and then a wax and I will tell you it still looks the ****ing same. Other than the fact that it is clean and somewhat shinny I can still see light scratches and swirls marks up close. That is what I was trying to get rid of.

Are you doing it by hand or using a buffer? B/c if your trying to remove swirls and scratches by hang your wasting your time. Try getting a portercable 7424

Which polish did you use?

you may just need to step up to a more abrasive polish

Tell us more about your process - as in, what type of wash? what kind of wash mitt/sponge? how do you use it? how many buckets? how do you dry the vehicle? what kind of polish did you use and with what applicator? (edit - I see you answered the type)

These are the kinds of things that introduce the swirling...wax won't do anything to improve appearance other than amplify a shine.

FWIW - if your eye is good enough to worry about swirl marks up close, you will probably need to step up to another tier of products...like Megiuar's for instance (just a random example of a good over-the-counter-line).

Some examples of online retailers:

A great tutorial.
/It looks like a lot of reading (it is) but well worth the time (clicking some of the links within & skipping some of the redundant stuff).

I use a one bucket system, ill try two now I guess. I use a standard sponge and shampoo for the wash. I dry the vehicle with microfiber towels.

I used Turtle Wax brand polish and I used a clean microfiber towel as the applicator. What is the best recomended hand applicator (non buffer)
