Detailing pros need help on stocking up on products!

Ive become very interested in detailing, especially after leasing the Infiniti for me and the wife. After reading Ive noticed that Ive been doing it wrong for years which explains the swirls. My main question is this..... Ive started slowly buying products from www.detailimage.com to start stocking up on the proper supplies. My question is should throw away all the "autozone-pepboys cleaning crap (rain-x car wash soap/ ICE wax/ Meg. sprax wax/ etc.......

I mean Im getting excited I might even consider buying the water purification system so I want the best. Any help and opinions will help, thanks guys.

PS: The three absorbers are going in the trash

get a foam gun, i love mine

and a bunch of quality microfiber towels

i like optimum no-rinse for cleaning various parts on the car. can be used as a quick detailer or however you want to use it. works great for cleaning lower parts of the car when they're really dirty but you don't feel like washing the whole car

pick up a couple squirt bottles

if you have any quick detailers, go ahead and hold on to them, could be used for cleaning the low & dirty parts at least. maybe even your wheels

Solisimo... This sounds like me about 5 years ago. I did the same thing. I started buying up and trying all new products and found the select products I like. Well actually I still buy up the new stuff and I'm all the time trying out new stuff. lol. I still keep my old run of the line detailing supplies. I'll use them when doing quick free jobs for a neighbor where I'm not going to use the top notch compounds and polishes. They will come in handy sometime so it never hurts to keep it.

Best of luck to ya... Post up or PM me if you have any questions. Garnet Canuck is a superb detailer as well that can provide an honest opinion on products or techniques too. Of course... Last but definitely not least, George from DI is a wealth of knowledge too.

as long as the soap does a decent job of foaming up, you should be alright. i use both zaino and ultima soap in mine

never used the p21s or menzerna wash, so i can't comment on it. but the menzerna sounds like it should be fine for the foam gun

I currently do not use a foam gun, but I'm planning on picking one up with my next purchase. Most of your carwash liquids will work unless they are extremely thick... For example, Meguiars Gold Class is a very think soap and may have problems. Again... Not entirely sure since I haven't been using one, but I'll report back my experiences when I pick one up.

Yeah Im looking at picking up the foam gun today, but with that do you still use the two bucket method or once you spray the car with the water and soap concentration you wash it using what has been sprayed

Yup... I would recommend you still use the 2 bucket system. I see why you would ask, but I'd personally would have a soap bucket where my mit goes before I touch the car. I see the the gun as almost like a "pre-treatment". But maybe that's me... I'm a bit OCD when it comes to detailing.

i wouldn't really throw any of that stuff away...i would add more stuff tho...higher quality stuff..like what detailedimage/migliore offers

get some sheepskin mitts at walmart for $5( i suggest 2 )
bunch of those big blue microfiber towels at warlmart for $7 each
when u wash, use the 2 bucket system

i'd still go ahead and use what u already have....i apply my wax by hand with a microfiber towel and buff it off by hand as well with a MF towel

if u already have scratchs/swirls u might as well pick up a PC and some good polishes (blackfire/menzerna/poorboys)

here's what my car looks like after a good detail

Not much... I've always spent so much time on either here, Driver, or Frenzy.

I'm actually in the process of starting a small detailing business where I hope to get 1 car a week/weekend to work on to make an extra few hundred bucks.

That's exactly what I've did last year. I opened up Prestige Auto Detailing last summer and it's really taken off. All of my business has been by word of mouth. When you do a quality job it doesn't take long for word to get around.

My only problem now is that what was intended to be small has turned into much bigger than I expected.
