How is color matching done?

Does the body shop themselves, try their best to color match the color?
Does the body shop, contact Infiniti and get the paint/components from them?

My IP G was done, and i took it back due to the color matching not being done right. The color they put on my rear bumper was way whiter than the IP.

Hope they get it right this time....

Was the body shop you took the car to recommended by the dealer you go the car from?

What you can do is get the color code yourself an dgive it to the body shop. That will actually make it easier for them to match the color. That's what I did when I took my Caribbean Blue G35 to my friends shop.

another factor is the body's shop's prep work and how welll they preped your car for piant. Also, don't forget that even though your cars fairly new, it has already been painted for a good amount of time and that paint has already been through some wear.

The color shouldnt have to be "matched" by them.....They should have the paint codes and be able to "whip up" the exact paint. At least that is how reputable shops work.

Btw i noticed from an earlier post of yours that youre in the LA area....Try Keyes Collision Center in Van Nuys. Best shop in all of SoCal in my opinion. Did 12k worth of work on my IS300 2 years back after a intoxicated woman rear ended me & the car looks like its never seen a ding.

No, i went to a body shop that has fixed other cars of mine. They had done a good job with my G35 Sedan that was a midnight blue color. For some reason this color was just too white.

I am gonna call them to see how it is that they do it, and inform them of what i was told on this forum.

Thanks for the info.

......................
Just spoke with the body shop, they said they get the color codes straight off the car info.

depends on the body shop. but most quality body shops have paint machines. they get the color codes one of three way. depending on what paint brand they are using they should have color books. these are large books with manufactors in them with small samples of every color from every car including codes. if they dont have the books then they get the codes form the car itself. if for some reason they dont have the car they can call the dealers. After that they type the code into the comp and the comp tells them which cans to add. for instance my uncle owns a local body shop and they use the ppg system. it has all these cans of paint with a spacial top. you take the can slide it into the machine which squirts out the exact amount of paint from that can. then you move to the next can needed and so on. then it mixes all the paints and walla you have your paint.
