USA to Canada shipping advice

I recently purchased the Aero front and sides from orderinfinitiparts.com

I have come into a bit of an issue crossing the parts into Canada. Basically they need a broker to accept the parts in order to cross to Canada. Since this is the first time I have ordered an oversize package from USA I am at a bit of a loss as to what I will need to do to have my items cross the boarder.

From quick research it looks like I can contact a local Canada Boarders Service Agency and work with them on paying fees and having customs release the products.

Has anyone in Canada dealt with a similar situation? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Just a suggestion. If you are close to the border, then why don't you get it shipped to a Kinek point and drive across the border and pick it up.

8 hour drive, its an option but not my favourite one. I'd be willing to pay if its not an outrageous brokerage charge to have it pass.

Thanks for the suggestion.

doh! i was also going to suggest a quick drive to the border. works like a charm in Vancouver. just picked up my eibach sways yesterday, no HST at the border!

anyhow, any online store that ships to Canada should be able to offer you a solution. most often shipping charges just go way up (compared to US shipping) due to the border fees.

Funny thing is they did have an international shipping charge but I am still having to deal with this which seems odd.. once again its orderinfinitiparts.com I believe many have used them in the past on this forum. I am located in Alberta (Edmonton) so at the very least no PST charges.

I just got my IPL Front Bumper and sides from the states about a month ago. Say you want to represent yourself as a broker. Then the courier company will get in touch with you and you will have to go to the CBA offices(just ask the courier, they'll be able to tell you the exact address where to go, usually near the airport), you'll have to go to their office get a form to fill out, then you'll need to go next door where you have to pay $60, go back to the CBA office and pay the taxes and the CBA will release your package. You'll save yourself about $150 in duty and broker fees....

As others suggested you can pick it up yourself but in my opinion is not really worth the trouble for 8 hour drive....

Hope it helps

Great information! Can I go into the CBSA office ahead of time? What information will I have to provide them with? (does the package need to be in customs, I believe currently it was denied and its in a warehouse close to customs.

You should receive a call from the courier and once you tell them you'll be your own broker, they send all the paperwork to CBSA ready and waiting for you to go there with your name and address. The CBSA will give a piece of paper which in turn you take to where the package would be held up by a "broker"(usually same building just a door over from CBSA office...just politics for more fees and paperwork) where you'll pay $60 for a piece of paper which in turn you'll take back to CBSA and your package will be released for delivery. You might have to pay taxes of about $30 on $283 (I'm assuming that's how much you paid for the bumper)

So the main thing is to contact the courier and let them know you'll be releasing it yourself as a self represented broker and they have to give the address and all the info where to go.

Thanks for the info my package is bit more than 283 (more like 900 got front bumper and sides along with replacement 11' washer tank and the black trim prices around the fogs) so I guess ill have to pay the tax on that which is fine. I think I got the ball rolling but I will see tomorrow morning.

Hey mykke101,
I am south of you in Red Deer and I had the parts shipped to Montana Shipping Outlet and they held the parts there for a small fee until I could get down there and pick up my items and bring them across the border myself. This takes away from any broker fee and all you end up paying is the gas down, gas back, tax at the border, and a small fee for the shipping outlet to hold the parts until you get there. I had them hold a set of wheels and tires for me. Very easy to deal with. They don't accept debit there so bring cash or a credit card if you use them.

When I purchased the IPL sides/front I ended up getting them from Kirkland Infiniti in washington as they price matched that website pretty closely and I got to see some friends on my trip back west to pick them up.

Good luck!
