like gtracing stated above^ thats just crazy! roadblocks to hand out VI's

have you ever dealt with the rcmp? particularly richmond? the VPD doesn't really hand out VI's that often. However, ive heard a lot of stories of the richmond rcmp handing out vi's as your only offense!

ahh i'm scared... revscene has so many threads about tints and people getting busted for it even %50..

How does a VI work, do you have to pay for the VI as well? And will they notice your tail lights have gtr vinyl overlay and front side markers overlay-ed too?

anything basically not up to factory spec can be VIed

VI basically makes you go to canadian tire or some ICBC approved shop, pay like 200 bucks ( i think) and go thru complete Vehicle inspection, like checking for stock parts, in some areas, safety, and illegal racing parts etc.

its just a waste of time and money to be honest

they made my friend take out aftermarket HIDs because its not factory spec, i lawled upon hearing

front tints are illegal, tinting your taillights is illegal, removing or overlaying the front amber piece is also illegal....no drl is illegal, lowered, exhaust, etc etc...pretty much everything is illegal....haha

appearantly even rims are illegal if they're over the manufacturer's oem size...my friend got this japanese cop pull him over in richmond, the cop said that it's illegal to have larger than oem size wheels because his oem brakes aren't meant to handle that kind of additional weight, etc etc...he's disputing it, but his court hearing isn't till mid summer...

and yes, the cops who pull u over here for VI's are mostly JDM or some sort of asian....and yes, they DO infact know about aftermarket parts, oem parts, so u can't bs ur way through....these cops are probably smarter than majority of the members on this board...(probably ex tuners from japan) haha

i'm just gonna elaberate on what you wrote....

a vehicle inspection is pretty much a cop telling u to get ur vehicle inspected by an approved mechanic (approved by icbc, which is pretty much any mechanic in the lower mainland)...some mechanics don't do it tho because it's a hassel and not worth their time/money....once the vehicle has passed, the mechanic will give u a sticker indicating ur car has been inspected, and they will send a letter to icbc indicating ur vehicle has passed the inspection and all is well...

it costs roughly anywhere from $120 (i heard) to $190ish, depending where you go....

You can also get ur car inspected at canadian tire, but those guys are all a$$holes, so i don't suggest u going to any canadian tire, they will literally check EVERYTHING on your car, and if it doesn't pass, they will make u fix it and fail ur inspection. If you're bringing a vehicle in from USA or another province, u have to do a federal inspection...only Canadian Tire can do it....

now since most mechanic shops can do vehicle inspections, some places are more shady than others....meaning they're willing to pass you for a little bit extra dough....costs anywhere from $150 to $250 depending where you go....MOST asian places will pass you if you have HID's or front tinted windows, or even if ur car is lowered....but if ur car looks like it belongs more on the track than on the streets, than most shops will most likely fail you, or charge u up the nose to pass you....

this is what they check:
-mods (suspension/ride height, exhaust, cat (they can smell it))
-front tints/taillight tint
-turn signals
-DRL/high beam
-horn
-wipers
-headlights/amber reflectors
-taillights
-SRS light
-rebar/rebar styrofoam (some places)

pretty much all the safety features on a car...hope this helps

Damn.. that's a real pain....

Is 50% even worth it to do? I already have my rears 15% however even the tinting shop said if I'm going to do 50% I may as well not bother..

yea...since u have 15% in the rear...it'd look really weird if u had 50% in the front...probably better off with 35% in the front....but then ur asking for cops to harass u!
