Hello all,
I am planning to get in Spring 2010 a G37x AWD model (I live in Oakville, ON)
I look at US prices (and the exchange rate) and it looks I may be able to save a couple thousand dollars.
For those who have imported: is it possible / easy to convert the fuel, temperature, speed etc. indicators to metric?
Would you recommend a specific dealer in the Buffalo / NY area (so within a couple hours drive from the GTA)? Which one?

Also it seems US cars are less desirable when trying to sell them and most dealerships will not want it on a trade. At least thats what G35/350Z guys have been finding out. you will also have to pay 5% duty and 5%GST at the boarder and a few hundred dollars to RIV canada.

I am planning to keep the car for a long time, so resale value is not that important. A couple of thousand dollar difference should allow me to get the premium package - which in Canada I could not afford.
The main question is: can all the displays (with the exception of the speedometer) be switched over to celsius / km etc.?
Then the second question would be: which dealer to use...

^ yes except the odometer wont change either im pretty sure mines still in miles.... but everything else changes oh and the speedo doesnt either! Get it and go for a road trip and break the G in! good luck.
And canadian tire put in my DTRL and did an inspection for me in an hr so its pretty easy, just make sure the border has all ur info 72 hours before you cross it with the car.

Since you are in Ontario factor in another 8% PST on the import. I have crunched the numbers, and on a fully loaded G37S from US and Canada with a 5% exchange rate premium the price difference is negligble and not worth the trouble IMO.
If you are in Oakville I would take a drive to Guelph Infiniti. I went to at least 5 dealerships for pricing and no one could match their price. In fact it wasn't even close. Without revealing specifics I have found that my monthly lease payment including taxes is less than some guys are paying before taxes on the same duration lease. You just have to know how to bargain

Gadgetguy, what made think about importing a car from the US rather than buying the car here?
Can I ask what the dealer is offering and what options you are looking for? Maybe some people on the forum will be able to help you find a great deal in Ontario!
I think you have to keep in mind that, if you do buy a car in the US, you won't be treated equally by the Service department for any warranty work! I have experienced that first hand! For example, one dealer I went to was asking me to pay $100 before they do any warranty work (once time fee). Another dealer won't be giving me a loaner car if I leave my car at the dealership for warranty work!!
After all the couple of thousands dollars you may save might not worth the hassle later on!

Buffalo is useless for Infiniti, for Cdns, they'll probably demand MSRP, claiming if they sell to Cdns Infiniti USA will punish them, so it has to be worth their while. In fact, 2 yrs ago, they wanted me to pay $1600 over MSRP, this was for any Cdn.

I think I should wait to get closer to the time where I am ready to buy (Spring 2010) to see what promotions and such are available at that time, so that I can do a proper comparison.

I did quite a bit of research before I bought mine used in the US. I have been given full warranty service in Canada with no problems (although if they need to swap out a part they sometimes forget to say it is a US car and get the Canadian part; I'm surprised they're not the same).
I can say the exchange rate has to be better than 95 cents Canadian on the US dollar to overcome all the taxes. IMO, the only reason to buy in the US is there is a much larger selection of used Gs in the US than in Canada. I also expected the weaker US economy would be forcing people to dump their premium vehicles so looking hard may find a used bargain.

I have changed my mind - after quite a bit of crunching I have found first a dealer who is willing to sell a G37 to Canadians (below list price), so the price difference is actually quite wide ( a couple of thousand dollars of saving are a lot for me - worth spending a day to pick up the car...)
But I am still not sure if I have found the optimal dealer ( the one I found is not very close to the border).
Any ideas to maybe a dealer not too far from the border ( Buffalo, Rochester or maybe Detroit area)?
