Buying a 2008 G37S with 165k?

Expecting to be a new member here, in the market for a g37!

I've located one, private party sale near me. It looks very clean and maintained, with 165k miles. After talking to the owner of it, he has maintained it well by having normal oil changes every 3k miles, along with all the other necessary things (belts, tires, etc.)

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for with 165k? Anything I need to really pay attention to when looking at the vehicle?

Would love some feedback!

also worth noting the guy is asking around 7k for it.

Prior to purchase, pay for a complete inspection by an Infiniti dealer and use any deficiencies to lower the purchase price. Brakes, exhaust, emissions, and many other parts are close to end of life so be prepared to sink some serious $$$ into an eleven almost twelve year old vehicle

7K is kinda steep for 165k miles. Im pretty sure you can get one for less miles for that price, just shop around some more. Good luck!

Not sure what your budget limitations may be or how much inventory there is to choose from in your area, however, I would shop around some and see if you can find something newer.

At 165k miles you are going to have some potentially expensive maintenance items coming up (suspension components, bushings, emissions sensors, bearings, etc.). Also, any G37 before 2010/2011 is potentially prone to a internal oil gasket failure which will cost at least $1500 to repair (unless you are a DIY'er). While this issue does not affect every car, it is something you should be aware of. If you do decide to take the car to a dealer/mechanic for inspection make sure they do a oil pressure test. Anything reading less than factory spec would be a no go.

There are also a bunch of interior, aesthetic issues these cars are prone to have including: peeling trim pieces, peeling/warping console panels, and sticky/melting dashboards. While these issues can be written off as "wear and tear" they also can influence your final negotiated price. Also keep in mind that the AV system is seriously outdated (which some would argue it was outdated when it was new).

The silver lining would be: if you are mechanically inclined and are willing to get your hands dirty, almost all of the maintenance and repairs for these cars can be done on a average weekend in the driveway.

Welcome to the site. There is a ton of useful information here and plenty of good folks who are willing to help answer any questions you might have. Good luck with your search/purchase!

Actually I believe that galley gasket failure is prone to models 2013 and below. I bought a hoopty daily so I can attempt the repair myself without being rushed. I did call around for repair quotes and the quotes I got outside philly were between $3000 to $6000 depending on independent vs dealer. If you buy a G37 prior to 2013 I'd highly recommend getting an oil pressure gauge permanently installed. I installed a Revel VLS since the pressure range goes up to 150psi and the car runs pressure over 100psi on cold start/run. That way you should be able to catch the pressure loss before it turns catastrophic. The idiot light comes on at 5psi or below and if you're getting pressures that low, there's a good chance your motor is near toast if it isn't already. The pressure should be greater than 14psi at idle with the engine at 175 degrees. From what I understand pressure lower than that at higher operating temps should be ok, someone correct me if I'm working. I get 20PSI at 175 degrees using the ODB port to see the temps over Ecutek. I hit 230 degrees frequently in traffic and when I do I've seen my pressure drop as low as 10psi stopped in drive, however it usually recovers to 14psi if I put it in neutral or park which is around the RPM it's supposed to be checked at.
