Fellow GTA'er:
I drive a G37S (manual 6 speed) sedan and always put snows on for the winter. With winter tires you will not have a traction problem. The VDC (stability control) works VERY well to keep you on your intended path.
The rims are different widths front/rear on the sport model. I picked up a set of 18 x 8 rims (35mm offset) and put on 225-50-18 Michelin X-ice Xi3 tires. They work very well in dry, wet, snow and ice.
hey fellow GTA'er Thanks for your tips ... and that photo sure gives me more confidence.
That brings up another good point ... I know the S model has different F/R stock tires and rims. For snow tires, can I fit smaller (and thinner) snow tires to 1. save cost 2. have better traction with narrower tire? 18" snow tires definitely aren't cheap and I'm thinking if there's any way to fit 17" snow tires in there?
Will I be able to find 17" rims that will clear the bigger calipers on the S?

I have the Xi3 on my RWD sedan as well. Obviously they are awesome in snow and ice. But I was surprised how good they are in warm dry conditions. They drive like all season tires. Highly recommend those tires.
Seriously considering a 12 G37S to replace my TSX, but i have some concern how it's gonna behave in the winter.
I've never owned a RWD car before, and worse, me and my wife drive both cars in the family which means she'll also drive the G37 in snow if I end up going for it.
I am concerned how well (or how bad) the G37S drives in snow, being a RWD car.
Snow tires is mandatory and that I'll get them. I do have another car (CR-V) which I will drive more during the winter months, but I still need to drive the G37 2-3 times a week, each time ~ 30km one way.
G37x is no-go, cause MT is a must for me.
And I live in Toronto, so we do get some snow ... nothing like Edmonton or Calgary, but we do get 10-15cm of snow on a 'snow day' ... and up to 30cm on a bad day (which I'll just drive my CR-V)
Wanna hear what you guys think, and if the G37S can handle that with good snow tires.
Only problem in a major NJ snowstorm was getting up my un-plowed driveway with over 8" of snow
Michelin Pilot AS/3 tires got me home fine.
If you get a G I have a set of 17" with blizzaks and two spare tires that I have used for the past two winters and am deciding to get one set of a/s to not have double the tire cost, personally the G will be fine where I live. PM me if you decide to get the G and i"ll send some pics

those 17s will have to clear the big Akebonos though.
Get blizzaks and drive smartly, you'll be fine. Check out my sig below for all the RWD cars I've had in New England and with the right winter tire setup, I had zero issues.
I live a few hours down the 401 from you (near Windsor) and have had my rwd 6mt G since 2012. Budgeted for an extra set of rims with snow tires when I bought it. It's my DD and I drive it year round with no issues. Just use common sense: when the roads are bad, slow down.
Actually, I find clearance is the biggest issue in the winter as there are sometimes chunks of ice/ hard pack snow on the road that make a really ugly sound when you hit them because the car is so low. That sucks.
Oh, and as someone else mentioned, Tirerack is a great place to get tires/ rims. I was able to buy a winter package from them mounted, balanced, and delivered right to my driveway (all shipping, taxes and duties to Canada paid) for less than the local tire shops!

Bought my 2012 G37s 6mt sedan in Ottawa last January and drove it back to New Brunswick where I drove it all winter commuting 70km each way to work. Xi3s worked great, and the traction control is awesome. I was coming from 15 years of Subaru driving and had swallowed the winter AWD necessity koolaid, but have been pleasantly surprised by the G's winter functionality. I had test driven the car in Ottawa with new all seasons on it, and even though there was no snow on the ground, they were not reassuring. Changed completely with the Xi3s. I put 225 40 18s all round on the staggered rims and they fit fine for the rest of the season, but will get dedicated winter rims for next (this?) winter.
