I drive my G37X in NYC, I get about 10.5 MPG. It's pretty ****ty, and had I known I'd probably would have got a 4Cylinder BMW 3 series...more economical.

On the bright side, when I start my car and rev my engine, the G37 sounds sweet as hell.

The G37X advertises as 18/25 mpg ....I guess when they refer to as "city" , they're implying the 40mph city driving with a stoplight every 3miles or something.

Had a 2007 GTi w/DSG with Leather. Bought brand new, sold in 2011 with 65000 mi. Chipped with APR Stage 1 (advertised 240bhp/280lb-ft)
Just got a G37 Premium/Nav in Sept 2013.
VW GTi:
Pros
- Fun to throw around corners, powerful brakes, DSG shifts quickly in manual mode
Cons
-horrendously harsh (and bouncy to boot!) ride (on 17s!), low-quality plastics and leather inside, interior rattles, noisy, stereo is terrible, DSG is absolutely awful in Auto or Sport

G37:
Pros
- Fun EVERYWERE, spacious inside, high-quality materials all around, actual LEATHER, stereo sounds very nice, ride/handling trade off is near-perfect, so is the steering
Cons
-Brake pedal is a bit soft, transmission can be a bit slow to kick down.

Fuel economy is about the same - I was getting 19.5mpg in the GTi, I'm getting around 19mpg in the G37. Main difference? I actually enjoy driving the Infiniti
A. LOT.
Go with the used G37. It is better. Trust me.

I would go with the G. Obviously, I have a G, so I'm a little biased.

However, I would never own a GTI. It's just not my taste.

Only downside to the G, for me, is gas mileage. However, it's not that bad. But, if you just want good gas mileage get a Prius or whatever.

I love my G. I have no real complaints about it. It's a very great car.

Are you a "bro"? If your answer is no, then go with the G37.

My buddy has a Gti apr Stage 1 with Koni coils. While it is a lot quicker now, actually close to my stock G and corners quick, in the end it is still not a sports/luxury car. The clutch, shifts and steering is just not good at all. These 2 cars are not in the same class and the presence on the road cannot be compared.

I don't get why people say the G is slow, it is fast. How can 0-60 in just under 5.5 sec be slow? And you think stock Gti is fast? Come on buddy, be serious. You just don't know what you are saying.

I realize this is an older post but just my two cents.

The G is a good looking car IMO, has plenty of power and a better ride then the GTI.

That being said the GTI handles considerably better around corners and in traffic. It has a better torque output when it comes to power to weight distribution.

Contrary to what people say on here I find my GTI very nice to drive and the interior of my MK6 is quite savvy! Love the bucket seats and power everything. Okay its loud but is quite fast with it's 220 hp turbo engine.

That being said you feel every knuk and cranny on the friggin road and the sports suspension is very rough at times. The G offers a softer and more comfortable ride as well.

I have to respectfully disagree with majority of your statements. My MKVI was not a very nimble car and oversteered badly and suffered from body roll. I ran Conti DW's and still was not impressed, to be fair I hear that sways make a night and day difference. The interior was decent, but I felt it outdated rather quickly. Now I personally had a base model with DSG, so I didn't have power anything. I will say I learned a lot on the GTI even put a k04 on her, but I do regret ever getting it.

G37 is like a poor mans AM VANTAGE

GTI is a rich kids CIVIC SI

I know that vantage comparison is a bit much but in my head I would like to think so LOL (Planning to add a AMV8 in a couple years)
