Buying advice G37 rwd manual vs G37 awd auto

Hi everyone,

I am new here and this is my first post. I am in the market looking for a used car and after having done a lot of research I have settled on the Infiniti G37 coupe. I live in the north east (Connecticut) and have to deal with snow and inclement weather. I know that driving in snow and inclement weather has more to do with proper tires, driving skills and attitude than just awd vs rwd. The car I would prefer to buy would be a 2008/2009 G37 rwd 6 spd, for winter driving I will definitely be installing winter tires, add some weight in the back and drive with sense. I am looking for any advice, personal experiences with regards to people who drive their G's in similar conditions. I would love to get the G in rwd and 6spd but open to suggestions and practical advice from experienced G37 drivers.

Thanks

I think you've answered your own question.

Using proper tires and common sense outweighs the drive axle in use.

JSolo, Thanks for the reply, reason I raised the question was I have been reading the forums and some folks have said that they were okay in winter with their G37 coupes in rwd 6mt, while others have stated that they were stuck, couldn't drive up hill etc and ended up trading in for awd. I am suspecting that these folks didn't "winterize" their cars. But I guess as a buyer I just want to get all my ducks lined up before I pull the trigger, so to speak.

Although it seems like it's harder to find G37 coupes rwd 6mt vs automatics

I've been driving rwd vehicles for the last 20 years. With proper tires, there are no issues in the snow. If there's so much snow that ground clearance becomes a problem, then even awd won't help.

My last car (4th gen z28 camaro 6mt), had no issues the afternoon following a blizzard here in chicago. Yes, it was equipped with proper tires and no sand bags in the back

JSolo, thanks again for the confirmation. I will continue to look around for the rwd 6mt G37. Nice to know you're from Chi-town, I used to live in Des Plaines.

Darth Kinetic, thanks for replying. Well the way my search is going I am having a hard time finding a 6spd g37 coupe. So far haven't seen one in the local infiniti dealers, my search o Autotrader is showing a few in NY, NJ, PA and MA. I checked Carmax they have a few but their prices seem a little on the high side. So if I have no luck in locating a 6 spd rwd, I might just go with awd auto.

G37S here (6MT). I use Blizzaks in the winter and have absolutely no issues at all. BTW this is in both MA and WI so I've seen pleanty of snow. Honestly, the most important thing in bad weather is stopping and turning, AWD doesn't help with that. RWD with winter tires is still so much safer than AWD with all seasons, even super expensive all seasons.

Go with the RWD 6MT, I've had absolute no regrets (but seriously, do get winter tires, driving with summers in even super light snow is a death sentence).
