New Car Purchase

Trading in a paid off 2011 Focus Titanium with only 6K miles. Planning on getting a Coupe with MSRP of 47-48K. I'm guessing the Ford is worth 20-22K.
785 Equifax.

What should I ask below MSRP

Interest rate 3%?

Any pointers would help I'm terrible at knowing what to ask for.

Sold my 2009 Coupe 18 months ago and want to upgrade again.

Any pointers would help, thanks.

Check out penfed.. they have great rates.. 1.74% now I think.

.75% if you use their new car buying service.

Trade in on a focus will be the major player. I wouldn't spend more than 18k on a used ford

Never in the military but a Credit Union is a possibility, thanks.

Was offered 18K for the Focus on a red sport with MSRP of about 48k, payments of $500 per month 72 months, 2.9 interest rate.

Opinions?

18.5 is strong for a 2011 focus. Is MSRP 48k or is that the sale price? I got a black x coupe on my lot with msrp of 52k on sale right now for $47,772 (I think, have to double check tommorow).

Need more info.

72 months is a long time. Is 60 not an option? 18.5 for a two year old focus is very strong. What do those go for new? I wouldn't pay 15,000$ for a new one.

If 2.9 is the same at 60 and 72, get 72 and pay it off sooner.

I would fouocus on a single cost. Less confusion if use bottom line of

G37 - trade in value (includes any tax savings)

Whatever that bottom line is it doesn't matter much if you get more for the trade-in vs lower price for the G. Don't conflate bottom line with payments.

When you get your bottom line then shop financing now you can compare payments.

I found credit unions give good rates for new cars. Mine is 1.49% up to 36mo.

Do you have at least 2 dealers to play off of? Might get a better price.

New Focus Titanium was 24K-28K depending on available incentives and rebates. 60 is an option but about fifty more a month I can't remember the exact figure. They originally offered 15k but came up by either lowering the price or raising the trade-in value.

The kept the worksheet so I'm going off memory.

I don't have the worksheet, MSRP was about 48K so they came down somewhere between 2K-3K. I was in a hurry today but I may stop by tomorrow for specifics.
