Buying advice

I know these kinds of threads pop up at least once every other day, but please bear with me.

I would have liked to introduce myself as a new G owner but, sadly (I know), I don't own a G. "Yet", so I'll save introductions until the car is sitting in the driveway...

After months of research and waiting, I've finally came to the a decision on a replacement car. I currently have my sights on a G37S M/T coupe. So my question to the knowledgeable folks on this forum is: what kind of pricing should I expect to pay for a used 2008 coupe with 30k-50k miles, navigation w/tech package, and navigation w/o tech package? I'm located in Massachusetts. I'm not sure how much interior/exterior color would play into pricing, but I'd really like to stay away from the cream/wheat interior and black obsidian, blue slate, and vibrant red exteriors. I limited my budget to $25,000 OTD, is this reasonable?

Thanks in advance for any insight. I'm looking REALLY looking forward to taking delivery of a G37 sometime these next few weeks, I feel as though I've held out long enough without a G, but the anticipation is killing me.

25k otd is a little but pushing it imo but good thing with used cars is they are unpredictable in pricing. You might be on the high end of the mileage to get anything close to that. Your looking at about 23k +fees if your looking at a dealer and I know we pay more then that for trade ins. That is also lower then auction pricing so good luck hope you find something. other thing would be to secure a loan and just buy privately, much better chance there.

Im new to the G Community as well but I Just Picked up my 2010 G Convertable fully loaded with 8k miles (clean car-fax) for $34k ($37,200 after tax and tags) which is way below norms... bought cash from a family friends dealership...

Posted to show you what some one could pay and this purchase was recent (last week) not a coupe but shows you some kind of pricing...

Kaoticdemize, thank you for the advice.
Nachi, I appreciate the post, nonetheless, as it gives me some direction. Thank you.

I don't know why some people try to mislead others...$34,000 for a 2010 G37 Convertible fully loaded with 8k mileage is not gonna happen...unless it's a totaled vehicle that's been rebuilt.
This Nachi person also claims he bought a 2008 BMW 550i for $24,000 in 2010...so take it for what it's worth.
I would believe what koaticdemize is telling you though...

Don't believe me? Im telling you what i paid for both of my vehicles that I currently drive... i know i paid under its value but we find deals like this all the time...This economy works wonders when someone with cash and bargaining techniques approaches a situation correctly. Its not far fetched...

Whatever dude...everyone here can see it's BS.

Most people here know what the prices are of these cars are...those kinds of comments don't fool anyone except someone that's new at buying cars...and there's good point in trying to make people feel like they got screwed when they didn't.

So. I've been looking and I *think* I've found one. Asking price is $28,000 for a 2008 with 24,100 miles. No spoiler, no tech, but has navigation and MT. I want to get away with $25k +TTL and doc fee ($385 what the heck?). It's over my original limit but I'm a little flexible with my reserve. Car's at the body shop for some prepping and detailing (fresh inventory) so I haven't been able to start it up and drive it yet.

Any input on this potential purchase? Again I appreciate ANY input (I'm well aware that this is the internet and information must be taken with a grain of salt). I'm looking to join the G family this weekend. Hopefully.

I should also mention that this from an independent dealership so it's not an Infiniti certified car. Clean title, one-owner lease.

I also want to apologize for bringing up a thread that looked like it was on it's way out...

if asking is 28k and its new inventory you definitely have room to play. Especially since it is at a non Infiniti dealership meaning they didn't want it (prob due to its reason being at the body shop) not necessarily a bad thing but they definitely got it cheap. I think 25 is reasonable however it might be a long road for you as it is fresh and they won't want to give it away. They probably paid about 22-23 k for it, and put 1200 or so into it. So just play hardball, you might have to go there negotiate hard and walk away if you don't get what you want. But if you are patient you will as long as someone else does not buy it.

kaoticdemize, you have provided so much insight into this topic and I am grateful for that. From your posts I take it you work in the industry and have some intimate knowledge of the topic from "the other side".

I went in today and saw that they had two other G37 Coupes on their lot. Both of them were nearly fully loaded with the exception of 4WAS (I didn't check), unfortunately they were both AT. One had approximately 17k miles and they were asking for $1000 LESS than the one I was looking at. The other was $2000 less, but it had 33k miles. Both were very clean; not a sign of wear and tear (not even seat bubbles). Out of these three, the one with MT was the most expensive at $28k. When I brought this up they mentioned that it was because there is a demand for cars with MT and that's why they can justify that premium for it despite having more miles and less options. Seemed like a sketchy explanation to me but I wasn't concerned. I did walk on their offer but we ended up somewhere north of $26,500. This is me showing up with a $100 deposit (it was all I had in my wallet at the time and the bank was closed). I think I'll show up with a more considerable amount of money and commitment this weekend to show how serious I am. I would really like to walk out with this car for $25,000 but I have no issues with passing it up for another car with more mileage and less of an asking price.

Kaotic, how much do you know about financing outside of a dealership (as in through a credit union)?

^^MC, same here. I could of probably worked a better deal on the 2012 sedan if it was one in inventory. Instead they had to order it. $38,5+ttl was the final negotiated price. Not the best, but not the worst either. According to my research, they're still netting ~$1500 in profit. Boils down to basic economics of supply demand. Low supply means and high demand means prices go up. If we were in europe, it would probably be the automatics that would fetch the premiums.

You can find cheap used cars. They're cheap for a reason. You can also find expensive ones. They're normally expensive for a reason. Even with pictures used is a gamble. It might be a POS when you drive it around, or it may be a gem.
When I was looking, I drove about a dozen of them and finally found the one I have now. Took a while but I found the gem I was looking for. Be patient and you will find the car you want. I have to admit, 25 OTD is pretty low though. 25 + TTL is more in line of what I would consider. For reference, I got a 2008 G37S 6MT with navi, premium, 38,000ish miles, and every other option for 27 + TTL. They even paid me more than I paid for my trade in.

You can definitely get it in the 25k range. At this point the "dropped" it to the 26,500 price which is a substantial discount and probably told you they just are not making much profit at this price. This is a tactic to woo Mr customer over with their generosity Can't blame them though as they need to make money haha. There is a premium on 6mt's as they are sought after and there are not many even though they are less expensive to begin with. If it were an Infiniti Dealership I would say take it at that price because you know what you would be getting. Is the car in good condition? Are there any points to the car that you can use to de-evaulate it and use it as a bargaining chip.

As far as outside funding this would be your best bet as again it is not a certified car. I would say if you can to get your funding established before going back to the dealership through a credit union (make sure you ave decent credit). Once you have done that, DO NOT tell them that you are pre approved, this will work to your advantage, just let them know you are financing it and not paying cash. They might go down easier to your price thinking that they will do your approval and mark the rate up 2 points. Once you have your price established and your happy, then you agree to the terms. Once the sales person has told his GSM that you took the deal and comes back then you say oh btw I am pre approved through my credit union for such and such. They cannot then go back on their previous agreed price.

Good luck with your purchase.
