need help trading in a 09 for 2010 lease.
Hi, I want to trade in my wife's 2009 black sedan journey w/moonroof for a 2010 lease possibly a coupe probably not black.
what do you think I can get as a trade in and is it possible to trade in for a lease?
car has only 3000 mi on it. and $12,000 owed to bank. car cost $29,000+++ ($36k msrp - below invoice price - $2500 incentive = $29,000) purchased at the end of last year with about 15k down and the rest payments.
4% financing.
how can i go about doing this? and what will the dealer appraise our car for?
thanks.

what is the retail on an 09 journey with moonroof?
i was under the impression packages don't add any extra residual to the car.
in order for this to work I need at least 26 or 27g for the trade in.

I have seen 09s listed in northern CA for anywhere $28K to low $30's. Only one I have seen listed for $25K is a salvage title. Market may be different where you are. But I know my car books at $27.7K trade on KBB. 10K miles. roof, journey sedan.
i'm gonna go in tomorrow and see what they give me for it
car has actually less than 3k miles. sure some 09s are worth $25k base according to the black book but a journey + moonroof is $1700 package.
also those 09s have anywhere from 12-20k miles. having 3k is basically like a demo car. those usually fetch a premium because of the like new mileage and hopefully should appraise a little higher.
if i can get $28 or maybe $27 at the lowest i'd be okay with it. Dealer can flip it for $29,500. i think 1-2 grand + fees is there target price for a used car.
fingers crossed

just came back from the stealership
man my stealership is greedy
appraised my car for $23g. told me to go to carmax to get more.
even the NAPA value was $24,700 and the Black book is $24,970
tried to put me in an identical car (base) with a cap cost of $34,000 while giving me $23000 for my 2009.
is it worth it to spend another 10 grand so i can have smokey quartz instead of black?
i don't ****ing think so.
oh and the mgr was telling me how they can go to auctions and buy cars like mine left and right for $20 grand. Didn't know infiniti had such ****TY value that a $35,000 car costs only $20,000 after 1 year. either this is some bull**** or it's the end of the world. . . .
went to the used lot and the used 09s were selling for $28,000 so i guess they want to make $5 grand on a used car or it's not worth it for them since they let me walk.

well it is a for profit business. If you were a business owner you would like to have some way to keep the company alive.
Try selling your vehicle privately if you can-- I'm sure you can try to find someone to buy it for $28k

so you want to get rid of a great car with little mileage on it, that you still owe money on, to get tangled up in a lease that will soak $$ out of you so fast, your head will spin.
all because you want a different color.
hmm..
good luck on that one!

it's for tax purposes that i have to liquidate my assets plus leasing has a lot of benefits right now given the low depreciation, low car payments and stress free maintenance.
personally if it were my business i would buy the car back for more money to make the customer happy even if i can't make much profit on the used car beyond my overhead and dealer fees just so i can make money putting the customer in a new car and moving more of those left over 2010s.
but i digress..
i'm sure if i wanted a loaded M the price of my trade in would have been thousands higher. the fact I usually buy base models goes to show the dealership just doesn't really value my business.
if I traded in my 2009 for $23g and bought a 2010 for $34 g, the dealer would have probably made about $8-10,000 off selling my used car ($4-5 grand) and earned about 3-4 grand on the new car. This way they lost the used car sale and the new car sale because they thought I was a sucker.
i think the dealer hold back on a g37 is at least $3000. Now if they came up on the 2009 by $4 grand they still could have made $3-5,000 on this transaction but like I said, they dont' really need my business (they supposedly sell over 100 cars a month)

Unless you can sell it yourself for a decent price, forget the whole thing and drive the 2009 for a few years. I am surprised by the low-ball offer from the dealership...seems like $25,000 would have been a more fair offer. In some states when you trade or sell the car to the dealer there is a sales tax advantage (only pay sale tax on the difference between the trade and new car price). Make sure this is factored into your calculations. Good luck.
they must have plenty of buyers for new G's at $34K then. Because clearly they didn't want to sell you one.
I have traded in a couple cars, tho I normally sell privately. Traded a Suburban when buying a new Nissan SUV and they gave me KBB - good trade value for it. Same thing at a BMW dealer when I traded a 99 540iT on a 00 M5 CPO - gave me KBB good value, which was $1K less than I had paid for it 1 year earlier with 10K fewer miles on it!!
I would try dealing with the internet dept via email rather than go in and deal with the normal sales dept. Clearly tell them what they have to do to get your business before you will even step foot into that dealership. You can find the stock # of the new unit you are considering from their website. I find that approach to be way more effective than anything else.

hey guys i listed it on ebay for $28,900 obo
i also checked carsdirect and a base 2010 has a target price of $31k. the finance manager knows i'm cheap and i'm surprised he tried ripping me off so much on BOTH the trade and the new car seeing as I purchased 2 cars from them this year and sent a few friends over there too.
i went to see the trade in on "autotrader" where random dealerships will honor a trade in/buy back price and it was $24,320 and about 50 dealership in my area willing to buy it. that's more than infiniti offered me and they're in the business of dealing with infiniti! so why is a jeep dealership offering me more money??
i'm glad dealerships are struggling today. they've been ripping people off for years and years feasting on peoples' misfortunes and desperation. payback is a bitch!
so i have an 8 month old car with 2200 miles. i have a bit of buyer's remorse about it. I shouldn't have to LOSE TEN GRAND on a premium quality car like this in such a short time frame. it's just plain wrong. if it were a ford or chevy, i'd understand. But an Infiniti?? cmon.. totally disappointed.

Depreciation is most severe the first year.
Think of it from the buyer's perspective. They don't know what you've done to the car. Maybe you abused it and want to dump it. Maybe it has issues. For a few grand more, the buyer would rather get a new car. There are a TON of reasons.
Why should they pay 29k for a 1 year old car and 2200 miles when they can get the current year for just a tiny bit more? It's brand new, has no miles on it, and comes with an extra year of warranty. Lets not forget any financing incentives available on a new car from a dealership (subsidized by Infiniti) versus getting their own loan locally. That financing difference alone could be worth more than the price difference between the cars.
Better yet, why should you get what you paid for the car? You want to take no loss, when you clearly got some use out of the vehicle. Don't state tax as a loss, that's just part of purchasing something.
