Unique position...

Hey guys,
I'd like to thank you all in advance for your invaluable insight, not just on what I am about to ask, but also for everything I've learned on this forum over the last year +. Anyhow, in a very short period of time I will be in a position to purchase (for cash, no leasing) two new cars (one for the wife and one for me). It just so happens that not only do I want an infinity but so does she! I'm looking at getting a g37 S Coupe and she wants a 4wd QX 56.

My questions are these, how much leverage do you think I would have over price negotiation by buying both at the same dealership AND would it be better to buy up in Georgia or down here in Miami? (I live in miami but will be moving north soon hopefully. Also, I figure everything is more expensive down here) Thanks again, and look forward to any and all responses...

I worked at a new car dealership for several years and can tell you from my experience, and from the way the market is right now, that you should be able to negotiate a better deal if you are going to buy two cars at once. The dealerships are all about getting numbers on the board and you will make some salesmans day when you walk in. Location shouldn't matter too much, as the dealers will pay the same for the car. Just depends how much they are willing to let it go for. The dealer I worked at would take a $500 loss on a car if we were slow, just to get a car sale on the board. Go in mid-week if you can. Check Edmunds.com et al and get the invoice pricing and work from that. Good luck, you'll love the G37!

check where ever the sales tax is the lowest. Since FL has no state income tax I would assume it would also have the higher sales tax, but I could be wrong. Or you could find a state close by that has zero sales tax (like OR but obviously closer to you)

And yes, definitely buy two from the same dealership. It'll give you good leverage in negotiating a price if they know they're getting 2 cars from the deal

Usually you pay sales tax in whichever state you register it in....

Just buy in Georgia if your moving their, don't have to worry about changing plates and reg over to another state. Will end up costing more in the long run even if miami is cheaper. Save the headache!

by "with cash", do you mean bank financing, or a good ol' duffle bag full of cash? if its the latter, you should be able to negotiate much better deals, since the dealership gets all of its money for the car upfront rather than have to break it up into payments.

Florida has sales tax, they don't have a state income tax...lol.

Also you pay where you register, for both taxes.

But why the heck do you want the QX56? It's a super over price Armada with some of the worst satisfaction ratings out there? To each his own, but man unless that thing was super cheap I'd pass on it.

And contrary to what people think you get a "better" deal with financing..since they make money off the APR, so don't be surprised you don't get the lowest deal...or at least wait to drop the "I'm paying cash" until you get the best deal.

I mean good ol' fashioned cash... I'm not gonna walk in with a briefcase filled with money or anything, but I''l get my deal and then go to the bank for either a transfer or get them a cashier's check

The QX isn't my choice, it's what my wife really wants, and why do you say it has low satisfaction ratings? Everyone we know that has them loves the friggin thing but if there are issues you know of I would like to hear them as all info is great to have when considering any automobile purchase, and I appreciate your comments. As far as the car deal itself goes, i'm not mentioning that i'm paying cash until i get the price I want.

i thought dealers would rather have you finance through them since their banks can make interest off of you..

as long as you buy the car, dealers could care less if you pay in full or finance the car. buying two cars, you should be able to get both for atleast invoice.

I'm hoping to get the coupe under invoice and the QX for significantly less...
