April Sales numbers

So I was looking at the April sales numbers for the G37 Sedan

INFINITI DIVISION
-----------------
April April Monthly CYTD CYTD CYTD
2009 2008 % chg 2009 2008 % chg
G Sedan 1,944 3,692 -47.3 9,480 16,952 -44.1

I know we are in the depths of the carpocalypse, but those numbers are stunning to me. I purchased my G37x in March and I drive a lot in the DC area and have yet to see one other G37 sedan on the road. Seen a couple coupes, but no sedans. In some ways I like that--sorta exclusive feeling and uniqueness. Looking at the competition though, they sold better, and at higher prices...and heres the real shocker to me, the new fugly TL which the dealers have resorted to rhinoplasty on the front end has trounced the G in sales. The price, performance, style, reviews, everthing leans G. What gives???

That's interesting that you don't see any other sedans in your area. I'm in Atlanta and I see a 37 sedan, on average, every other day but I have yet to see a coupe.

Well I occasionally see what appears to be the G37 sedan, but each time on closer inspection, its an 07-08 G35. Does anyone know how many Infiniti dealers there are currently in the U.S.? I couldnt find that info anywhere online.

Here in Northern Virginia, I have yet to see another G37 sedan besides mine...but I do see the 37 coupes from time to time, in fact someone who works in my office complex has one.

I see the hideous TL every so often but not as often as the G coupe. I even saw a TL with an aftermarket grille, which took it from hideous to merely ugly. But it still looks like a Camry with Elephant Man disease...

Mayor, to what would you attribute your predicted jump in sedans spotted on the road this month? Increased incentives? Seasonal sales differences? Cumulative effect of all the good reviews? Just curious really...

well in my area we sell about 50% of monthly sales are sedans, which most people do lease.

So these numbers aren't encouraging as compared to years past, but as a consumer my question would be how are these numbers compared to what has been manufactured for 09? And is there a surplus sitting some place that they will be scrambling to offload in the coming months?

a problem is people are forgetting that inventory won't be as high as last year because Infiniti didn't produce and build as many as they did. Remember the 5 month build freeze? We're actually having an issue not having enough inventory.

Plus, if someone compares #'s from last year, think about your own house and you won't get to sell it for what it was worth last year

I do remember the build freeze, that's why I'm curious to know how these numbers stack up with what has been produced not what the numbers were last year? Is there anyway to get a production number for the year? Or do they have a projected number for the rest of the year? And when do they cut production for 2009 and start the 2010?

As for my house, it will go up in value after the recession, don't think I can say the same for my car.

my friend lucked out for buying a Toyota Supra and selling it for $4k more than what he paid for it 6 years ago. That also includes all maintainence and upgrades he did on it. Cars won't be like that for long.

Projected numbers are hard... I think most companies are just trying to see where they can cut loses or just to break even... thats for any business around.

Some issue this year is being able to approve people with the sub-prime issue. Last year, it used to be easy to get anyone a loan. This isn't the case and some people just don't want to understand the economy is in this state because of that.

I don't think that's a case at all. Around my area the inventory has been building up on dealer lots at an alarming rate. I think each dealer in my area (even the smallest one) has at least 50+ G37X sedans on the lot.

What people ARE forgetting is that Infiniti held the G37X at the port for some time because they just couldn't unload the G35 sedans of 2008 fast enough. All that really happened is that they are pushing the same problem they had this past winter into 2010's winter where they will have to start offering ridiculous discounts on G37 sedans again.

you can't assume a high inventory for dealers means they aren't selling cars. we have 50+ G37 sedans in stock but we sell at least 50+ each month consistenly.

i'm on the inside and yes there are great deals to be had, but just like any type of business you have to make sure you have enough inventory to last you for a specific timeframe
