Here is my deal. I currently have an 07 G35 coupe lease that is ending at the end of July (this year). I was determined on buying an 08 G37 - until the speculative news came out about the 7 speed tranny and possible self-healing paint.

My dilema is that I can get a good deal (invoice) on 08 coupe - but I don't know how much the 09s are going to be (might have a price increase) and when I would be able to get it for close to invoice price. Also, I know that 7 speed is better than 5, but we have had 5 speed for a while now and it has proven to be a good tranny... 7 speed is new and potentially might have some problems. Also - nobody really know how great is the self - healing paint will be.

So, do you think it would be wise to wait for the 09 and potentially pay more and wait more for getting 7 speed? or just get the 08 right now for invoice...

is 7 speed going to be THAT much better... I mean one or two MPG increase?

Whatever you do and whenever you buy...there will always be something better just down the road/around the next curve...it sounds like some of the karma (the end of the lease) says to go with the bird in hand...but, bottom line is go or do whatever helps you get to the core of your decision matrix and just do it (for me it's a friendly bartender that is amenable to overserving me and ensuring I find my way home...but each to their own).

 

I say wait and see what the 09's are offering. It's only a few more months until the 09's are out. The 7 Speed may have a small or big increase on gas or performance who knows? Just wait and see.

 

Wait till the 09's out, then your decision will be easier since you'll be able to compare the 2. But I'd go with the 08 6mt.
