Question How long did it take you to negotiate?

Just wondering for those who have negotiated their terms, pricing etc. How long did it take you and what was your experience?

Less than 5 minutes. I was shown the invoice and said $500 over and one more word CASH and that did it! Got it today, clear bra next Monday, so not too much driving with all the rock slinging trucks here until then. Pics will follow once I give it a Zaino treatment.

^^ Why would you pay cash when you could get 3.9% financing & make more money by sticking your money in a CD or high yield savings acct?

I had the money, a good year, and I didn't want the debt.

^^ I guess if you consider not making a return on your money instead of making 1+% "debt" than I can see why...

Purely a personal decision, left at that.

CD rates are better than 2.9%... If you were to have finance at 2.9% and stuck the money in a CD... you couldve pulled over 4% off the cd and made money that way. Also you wouldve built your credit up more.
So in the end the least you wouldve made would have been 450 dollars a year... now if you took the shorter 1.9% you couldve at least made 900 bucks a year... PRetty good to get paid money to build your credit...

but again its all a personal choice... if your happy and have no regrets.. then thats all that matters...

I didn't negotiate... I just walked in and told them I wanted the car and gave them money. Is that not how it works?

Did not have to negotiate after I went to the right dealer. But my down payment was so good, they said $150 over invoice and also ended up taking the price of the spoiler off. If we didn't have to wait for the finance manager to get there, we would of been out in less than a hour.

First a few probing questions via email, then a couple of quick calls and DONE.
purchased in November, paid 500 over invoice.

Took me one minute. Showed them an envelope with my VPP letter and the deal was done. ~1600 below invoice (minus 550 I owe for the friend who helped me out), so ~$1050 under overall.

Emailed several dealers (an hour of time over several days), got the price I was happy with, walked in and drove out in 30 minutes.
