DiscProdiG's Build Thread

I've wanted to document the progress I've made with my G for a while now, and figured why not start a build thread?! Compared to many on here my car is nothing special, but it is definitely my baby and I wanted to share what I've accomplished so far and plans for the future.

A bit of background on my car history.... started off in the Nissan family with a hand me down Nissan Stanza (wtf is a Stanza right?!) - the precursor to the Altima. Had that beautiful pearl white beast lowered on some cheap springs - hey I was in HS - with some cheapy 17" Konig rims. After that was totaled I moved on to a fun to drive 1990 NA Miata. Intake, sways, springs and exhaust is all I ever accomplished with that car before it was totaled (not my fault again... I know theres a pattern forming.) Then came my first deluge into Euro vehicles with my 1999 A4 1.8T (booooooost!) and that was pretty much stock when I sold it to by this puppy:

2008 G35 Sedan Sport 6MT in the lovely Black Obsidian

I had been looking for a sporty 4dr sedan and fell in love with the G series Infiniti.

Car was stock for a bit while I researched G35driver to develop my plan.

First up was tint (no pics of this) and Stillen G3 Intakes

Then came my phase with Plasti Dip - as I'm not a fan of chrome and stock the G35 has waaaay too much for my taste.

Started with the emblems

And a little bit of tint on the tails

Then came the rest of the exterior chrome

Next I worked up the courage to bake my headlights and paint the shrouds black to bring the blacked out look together

Shortly after this I was blessed with my first born and all things cars took a backseat to other necessities and priorities (funny how that works huh? :P )

Years later I got the mod bug again and convinced the wife to let me play with my toys again

Next up was a set of Stillen cross drilled rotors all around

I was getting tired with the stock suspension (always been a first priority over engine mods for me) and decided to get some coil overs and the goodies to go with it

After a frustrating fight with my front lower strut mount bolts (PB blaster and liquid wrench had nothing for these bolts including my impact gun with support lol) the black beauty was dropped and aligned.

Got a great deal on a sport lip I'd been eyeing for a while and was prepping for install in the pics above.

Front lip installed (another stubborn bolt on the front under tray with this one)

Next was the Cusco STB

Got some spacers to get the wheels a bit more flush. B2autodesign spacers with built in stud - very well made product I think. Easy install and the result is exactly what I was looking for.

Had to scrub the hubs a bit for a good fitment, but easy enough to do.

Much better

Recently, I've noticed my plasti dip looking pretty grungy and overall crappy. After some research on here and youtube I decided on some vinyl from VViVid Vinyl in Anthracite for the interior washi aluminum style pieces. First up was the center console.

Having never taken this apart in the G it was an easy disassembly with no big issues with the vinyl. It was easy to work with, minimal heat need to get it to form to some of the curves and edges on the interior trim pieces.

Rough looking plasti dip

Starting to peel and degrade on the rear doors

Center console disassembly

Radio bezel

Lower bezel under radio wrapped - this was the first piece since I felt it had the fewest odd edges to work with. Gaining confidence...

Center console complete - standard trim in the upper right

Comparison of the anthracite vs the washi colors

Ordered some more vinyl after the confidence I gained starting with the interior trim.

Time to get rid of the plastic dip on the outside starting with the window trim. Found the gloss black matched pretty well with the stock trim.

Halfway there - started with the front as the upper back strip I knew was going to be a PITA from the DIY

First side done

Compared to old plasti dip

I had some leftover Anthracite vinyl and decided to do the steering wheel trim that had peeled pretty bad.

Put the steering wheel back on one spline off... Doh!

Looks like you are as adverse to chrome as me, lol.
Nice additions so far. Might take a look at a couple of my DIYs IMO the wrapped vinyl will look better on the window trim since it matches the factory wrapped door pillars.
Just give a shout if you want some of those tail cutout templates

Black sport wheels and a bbk would do wonders.

Looks like you've got the skills! Very nice work on the vinyl, like that Anthracite choice too.
