darryl865's build thread
After having talked about it for a while with my good friend, Tevi (soolman32), I've finally come around to creating this thread. I guess technically it's not really a build thread since the build is near complete, I just didn't know what else to name it.
Some of you may know me, some of you may not. For those that do, it has been a long overdue process and for those that don't, I hope you guys enjoy
The day I first brought her home almost 3 years ago:
Shortly, the mod bug bit me...and bit HARD! Hooked her up with Eibach lowering springs and Injen CAI's:
Then, I did what all noobs do and decided to plastidip some parts of the car including the wheels, grill, and that stupid chrome piece in the back:
After that I decided to pick up an ARK Performance exhaust and add a Seibon CF hood (rice, I know..)
Not too long after that, the newest mods went on: AIT front bumper and RaulGCustom headlights with demon eyes:
After my quick start with the car, I started feeling dissatisfied. I started getting picky with everything and overall, I just didn't like how the car was sitting. This was when I made the decision to start over with the car, starting its true evolution to what it is today.
I ended up parting everything out and the very first thing I picked up to begin the rebuild were Gramlights 57S Pro Titanium:
After that I found a great deal for an HKS Exhaust and also Tanabe coilovers. Add those to the mod list:
I then decided to clean everything up by throwing on the stock journey bumper, adding the stock headlights, and adding the OEM spoiler to replace the chrome piece in the back:
Of course, it wasn't long until the OEM journey bumper starting bothering me a bit so I decided to do the 2011+ sport bumper swap:
This was when I truly started to feel that the car was getting somewhere. Shortly after adding these basic mods, I applied to join team SoCal Driven:
This is when things started to really take off for the build. Because everyone on the team was already much further along with their build than mine, I felt the need to catch up and get on their level.
Shortly after joining the team, I found a great deal on a discontinued Motorlux Duckbill CF trunk which I scooped up right away:
To further lengthen the mod list, I decided to have my headlights done once again to black chrome:
Feeling like something was missing once again, I decided to add the Aero side skirts. What a difference they made!
After entering a show with the team, I felt the front was too stock and that the car lacked any aggressiveness to it. This made me want to change the front once again. This time I went with the setup I've always wanted but never had the opportunity to do.
I took off the 2011 sport bumper and threw the 2008 sport bumper back on and added a JP Vizage front lip coupled with my aero sides. I also added an Autokits CF V2 diffuser:
After this, I decided to tackle the little things that would sharpen the exterior of the car. Now comes OEM rear splash guards, Autokits CF mirror caps, and JDM amber tail lights:
Finally, at this point, I felt the car was done. It looked good and it was exactly how I envisioned it:

It was that time of year again. My first official full show season with team SoCal Driven:
In the middle of show season, I decided to change the car once again. This time, I had something bigger in mind. It was time for a color change! I had the car vinyl wrapped in Gloss Blue Metallic:
Finished product and first night home!
Last show of show season and the debut of the new color at Spocom:
After show season, I decided to pull the trigger and sell my Gramlights, JP Vizage lip, Aero sides, and Autokits diffuser for the most badass setup I'll ever have:
Enter Zele front, Zele sides, Top Secret CF Diffuser, and Work Gnosis 4:
Shortly after, I decided that the existing black chrome headlights didn't match the matte black of the Zele lip so I had that changed once again:

Next up came the BBK:
Having some fun along the way:
I decided to change wheel combinations once again. This time to try something new, I went stance and added Work VS-XX:
Only having rocked this look for a few weeks, I got fully sponsored by AMF Forged. They are a part of ACE Alloy Wheel. Photoshoot with the new wheels on: (Oh, and also got rid of the Motorlux duckbill trunk and added the JDP CF Spoiler!)
Along the way, also got sponsored by Litespeed Racing for their Titanium CAI. I also had my good friend JP hook up some custom engine bay pieces. The engine bay is not entirely done, but is getting there:

There was a meet last Friday night at Guppy's in Chino Hills for their grand opening. One of my team members was able to snap these sweet pics:
I'm sure I missed a lot on the way, but that is a general time line of the car. I also recently added a Fast Intentions full catback and will be uploading some pictures and video of that. Stay tuned all and thanks for looking

Where did you get the rear diffuser? That is on my list, but I don't know where to start to find a reliable source.
Good looking ride/great job; you are obviously enjoying yourself.

PS
One nit...I really liked the Gram Lights with the wrap -- hope you kept those around to throw on from time-to-time (and I don't really care for the wheels except with that wrap!).

Darryl, this car has definitely been one of the main cars on this forum I've always kept my eye on, not only because it looked great but because you constantly pushed the envelope with it and it got better and better. Disappointed I wasn't able to get the motorlux trunk lid but the car has definitely come a long way and continues to look amazing. It has been since I've been here and will continue to be in my top 5 favorite G coupes!!

Incredible thread, would love to see your car currently on smaller wheels like 18's or 19's, 20's have always been to big for my liking. Also have you ever considered bags? It seems like money isn't an object why not go all out!

Thanks man!
Unfortunately I sold those a while back I do miss them though! I got the diffuser from a friend that was actually selling his at the time.
Thanks for the kind words brother!! Loving how your ride has come so far as well
Thanks man!
Thanks Eddie! Trust me, no one misses those VS-XX more than me but the timing with the sponsorship and all that just wasn't right unfortunately
Thanks for your input! The gramlights I was rocking before were actually 19's and looked good IMO. Just wanted to step up to 20's to see what all the hype was haha. Funny you mention bags. I was actually very close to pulling the trigger on bags this summer but decided not to at the last minute. Maybe in the foreseeable future

Finally!!!! I honestly didn't even recognize the early days of your ride when you had the vented hood at first. Then the more I looked at the pics i was like "wow, didn't even know that was him back then "
Your evolution has definitely been an epic one and a joy to watch. Unless you sell the car, I know there's a few more chapters to write Keep up the amazing modding and congrats on the sponsorships you've been picking up.
