I have recently installed the red akebono calipers and I wanted to know if anyone ever had this issue.
When we removed the OEM calipers from the front wheels as we can see on:
example picture 1- with the OEM caliper black arrow,.
example picture 2- brembo caliper with the red arrow
Both shows that the washer is placed between the bolt and the bracket that olds the caliper. We did the exact same thing when we installed the Akebono but when we got the car off the lift as soon as we started to back up we heard some noise and the mechanic said its nothing it may just be the pistons on the caliper. He took it for a spin but the noise was still there. The car was back on the lift, took everything out and started to do some troubleshooting but the result was the same. the next morning the mechanics went on it again and for some reason he was able to put the washer in between the bracket and the caliper as shown in the last picture and it was fine. I have seen so many videos on the tube and on here but none of them ever put the washer in between like this.
Anyone ever had to do this too? the mechanic thinks that those Akebono are not meant for that car lol
your mechanic did not attempt to spin the wheels by hand before dropping the car back on the ground?
There there should have never been any drag.
Could be as simple as the pads installed incorrectly
Basically you are shimming the caliper out to meet where the rotor sitsWhere did you source the rotors? They may be out of spec, or for another application.
The washer is meant to spread the load from the bolt head against the caliper body. I would run both a shim under and a washer on top if necessary.
note: Make sure the bolt is long enough if spaced...
As a motorcycle mechanic, I see the need to correctly space calipers, wheels, rotors, axles etc.
Spacers, shims and sometimes even machining are often necessary.
Start using more than one brand of aftermarket parts. And slight intolerances can stack up, creating drag or even bind.
You don't want your brakes to lock up while driving.
Triple check that ****.
" your mechanic did not attempt to spin the wheels by hand before dropping the car back on the ground? : I dont think he did if my memory is correct.
the pads were installed correctly. the Rotors were new, never used and what we did we went to Caps auto parts and I explained them the situation. I bought 2 new front rotors and went home and they were the same size. I didn't installed them cuz if I do I wouldn't get my money back my $250.
