6mt Steering rack replacement

My rack is leaking and I need to replace it before I get an alignment. Is the sport 6mt sedan the same as the all the RWD, RWD S, AWD... I thought I had a different ratio than the base model so I want to be sure I get the right one. I see a lot on the junk year site and refurbished ones. Based on my vin I need 49001-JK62

https://www.infinitipartsdeal.com/Pa...=&PartNumbers=

Can any one let me know if this is accurate:

The rack an pinion on a RWD g37 and G25 is the the same across ALL trims, the difference is in the tie-rods. You see most of the racks you'll see online come with tie-rods, NO ONE sells them without tie-rods hence why part numbers differ.
After doing extensive research you'll see that the part numbers for the rack alone without tie-rods are all the same. The sport "quick steering" tie-rods are shorter.

This opens the range of options as you can find BASE racks for cheaper just make sure you buy sport tie-rods or re-use your old ones.

I am think but not completely sure - You could probably get any rack and then just get INNER and outer tie rods for your model (which should be easier to find). While replacing the rack you should use new inner and outer tie rods anyway.
How bad is the rack leaking? Where is it leaking from? Maybe if you feel some looseness its coming from one of the tie rods instead...

It seems based on the pic, one is my vin the other is the vin of a base model which I snagged a rack from that only difference is the outer rods. The ending of the part numbers if you click into them on the site have the same inner numbers but the outers are different

I was the one who posted this. I was not able to confirm on AWD however RWD are all the same.
The difference will be tie-rods. If you look up on depth diagrams you'll notice this.

If the subframes are the same, mounts are the sames, control arms are the same then the racks should bolt to the car which they do.
The next step was finding what was the actual difference itself.
These cars were made from 2008-2016 and in many trims, Nissan loves to come up with part numbers however likes to re use many of its parts.

Perfect example, the powersteering pump for the sport is the same as a Titan. You'll never be able to find this info unless you experiment and keep an open mind

Back to it I found:

49001 - JL07A - coupe 4was
49001 - JL06A - coupe base
49001 - JK600 - RWD sedan base
49001 - JK60A - RWD sedan base
49001 - JK60C - RWD sedan sport
49001 - JK63A - RWD sedan base
49001 - JK620 - RWD sedan 4was
49001 - JK62A - RWD sedan 4was
49001 - JK62C - RWD sedan 4was
49001 - JL06ATJ - RWD base -2008

As you can see by the part numbers, many similarities the problem is many of these part numbers have been superseded and change only leaving visual as the judge.
I ended up pulling the trigger on an used 09 rack from a base sedan I go from American Auto Export.

When I got home I layed them side by side and looked like this

I opened the tower where the worm gear is located and it's exactly the same to the teeth.
The next step was to determine why the bottom rack was shorter. I removed both rods and measured the rack which was the same.
After doing more research and comparing notes I found 49200 is the bare rack part number

1 sport inner 2 base inner

1 sport outer 2 base outer 3 base inner 4 base inner 5 sport inner 6 sport inner 7 base outer 8 base outer

1 sport 2 base

I'll be creating a thread with this info as it brings closure to one of the most expensive parts of these cars. When a change of tie-rods is a $100 difference, it's worth noticing.

So far I've put 1kmiles on my 2010 sedan sport with 4was. The car is running a 2009 base rack with sport rods and a titan ps pump.

Wow thats a lot of work you did. So the rack I got is from a 13 sedan RWD. So likely the only differences I will see will be the inner tie rods as I will reuse my outer rods. I guess I can have the shop compare them to make sure they are the same and if not I will order inner rods based of my vin??

Very important to keep your inner and outer as they are the only thing you have for comparison.
So order the ones based off your vin then compare to what you received.

Measure the sports one while they're out, I forgot to measure mines when they were out

I'll try to measure the base ones which I have in the garage.

Once you do comment on this thread as I'll be using that to make a "Rack n Pinion" on a budget thread.
You should check the power steering pump thread I made. It's possible you might have issues later with the pump.
