Staggered to Square
Staggered to Square
Wheel pros I need your help! I have a 2012 sedan sport model with staggered stock setup. I was thinking of going to a square setup so all my wheels sizes match.
Do I need 2 new rims? Do I get all 4 matching the wide rear tire or matching the front?
Is the staggered setup just for looks or is there some performance gain?
Thanks for any reply. I need new tires. That will be my next post

There will be a slight improvement in braking if you go with the wider set. That said, tire compound will have more of an effect than tire size. In addition, if you track your car, you'll have less front tire slip in turns, aka less understeer.
The most important criterion is if you have a Sport with the Akebono brakes. Stock sport rear wheels will fit, but you will have to be careful makimg sure aftermarket wheels will clear the front calipers.

The stock Sport Sedan wheels are 18x7.5 front 18x8.5 rear. If you do decide to square it up I'd for sure go w/ 4 rear wheels, then you can run quite a bit more tire. With the 7.5" front you're pretty much locked in to that 225 width, not a great setup on all 4.
I went with coupe wheels (staggered) to gain an inch width both front and rear. Tires are more expensive but I'm willing to pay the price for the extra grip. The down side is I can't rotate the tires.
After a lot of research I decided to stick with the staggered setup. I just ordered 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. These have great ratings & reviews. Paying more than my comfort zone but I am tired of losing traction. This is my third set of tires & I have only 40,600 miles ! Is this normal wear?

Nice setup, as per your normal 16.5k miles per set (assuming at 40k miles your 3rd set was shot) you should get a bit more miles since you now can do full 4 wheel rotations. Let us know how they look a year from now
You missed the post stating I'm sticking with the staggered.
Help. I took my Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires to the same place I bought them & asked for a tire rotation. Since I am staggered, I thought you can switch L front to R front & same with rears as long as they stay synced by size. The guy said they can't be rotated.
Are these directional? That would be the only reason to prevent this. Is he right? Great tires BTW.
