I do, it's not leaking. I'm still unsure what it is and don't have time to send it to the mechanic yet to figure it out.

When they swapped mine out, the tech couldn't tell the difference between the new one and old. My guess is they changed the hole diameters or something like that. I don't believe there any internal baffles in the res. Oddly, the price of the reservoir is $$alot$$.

Not kidding the reservoir isn't cheap. Infiniti price $224. Supposedly an easy install. If I get no satisfaction from customer service, after trashing them on social media/BBB/etc. I may just change it myself. I like to do my own work when I can. Last month replaced the windshield washer tank ($150) after winging a deer (it ran away with no apparent damage). Can hardly see the crease in the front bumper, but enough to crack the tank.

Has anyone attempted a DIY for this one? On the surface, it seems really straight forward, but I'm wondering if there are any gotchas.

I agree with one of the other posts that they must have determined that the pump becomes starved under certain scenarios then created a reservoir with slightly larger inlet/outlet diameter. I've always accepted the sound and never thought twice (I've heard other 2009-2013 Gs make the exact noise), but now my kids are starting to ask what's wrong with my car :-)

Symptoms are identical to the TSB.

Parts Geek has a replacement for $70 here

The best price I can find on an OEM version is ~$190...

Wondering if OEM is really needed as it's really just a molded plastic container for hydraulic fluid.

I suppose you can always return it if the system makes noise with the $70 part. This noise drove me nuts for 2 or more years. Thought it was trans related at first.

Please keep us in the loop whatever you do. I'd like to replace mine but obviously would prefer the $70 part to the $200 part.

Anyone here with this issue successfully fix it by removing the power steering pump and replacing it?

Had the whining and groan noise. Steering pump was replaced (reservoir is already updated MY13) and wow, it drives totally different! Did not think it would make such a difference.

I guess it could be a pump, but PS pumps anymore are fairly bullet proof.

What did a PS pump replacement run? Seems odd that there is a TSB on the reservoir unless the outlet was positioned incorrectly on the OEM one and they had to re-position it for the TSB fix.

I cannot recreate the noise when on a flat surface, but if the car is headed downhill, then I slow to turn left, it will howl.

My driveway at home falls into this use case, so I can recreate easily.

I'm wondering if it could damage anything over time?

Good Morning, My brother has a 2010 G37x and over the weekend he was driving his car and when he came to a stop he noticed that the steering wheel had hardened. He was unable to turn the wheels left or right. There was alot of resistance. Upon driving the car the steering wheel loosened up like nothing happened. as he slowed down the resistance kicked in again. We did notice that the fluid was a minimum level and also noticed a leak.
Car is being brought to a local mechanic this morning but I wanted to get your input.
I beleive it is the power steering pump. If it is the pump I noticed that infiniti sells two different pumps for the vehicle. (sport tuned and non sport tuned). The non sport tuned goes for roughly $900 and the sport tuned for $500. Which pump would be the correct pump? Do you recommend replacing the belt if the pump needs to be replaced?

I'm going to have them look at mine this week when I take the car in for some other things. It's odd how turning left while on a slight incline triggers the issue. My service writer of many years said that the new reservoir fixes the issue, but even he had no idea how it was any different from the original. The only thing that makes sense is that the diameter of the inlet/outlet changed slightly to compensate for the errant left turn use case

Bumping this one.

Been experiencing steering wheel whine for quite a bit, but it’s gotten worse since the weather got colder this year. Might bring it in to a local shop to diagnose, seems like most folks with this issue had it resolved by replacing the reservoir? (assuming a loose fitting wasn’t found)

Hoping a PS pump replacement won’t be necessary...
