Ok, first time trying to replace my brake rotors. I have a quick question - just to make sure that I am not missing something.

(I've searched the forum and can't find an answer to this question.)

In replacing the rear rotors, you need to remove the rear caliper, and then the rear caliper bracket. The bottom bolts for both the caliper and the bracket line up almost directly with a sway bar attached to the rear A arm preventing their removal.

Do I need to remove the sway bar to remove the bolts in the bracket and caliper, or is there some trick to removing these two bolts?

The sway bar that I am talking about is shown in the left in the pic attached to this post.

I haven't done the rears yet (and I have a coupe) but to me it looks like that's the toe(?) bar not the sway bar. The sway bar is the rounded one behind it attached to the end link. Either way, I would say unless you can get a wrench in there and pull the bolt out enough to remove the caliper bracket then it looks like you will have to remove the bar itself. GL

 

You don't need to remove it. You just can't fit a socket there. Use a box wrench

 

Thank you for the responses. I wasn't sure if the 19MM bolt on the bracket would make it all the way out with the bar in the way.

The caliper bolt won't make it past the bar. I am guessing that if I remove the caliper bracket I can take the caliper bolt out after the bracket comes out.

If I'm looking at this correctly, remove the bottom caliper assembly bolt, then loosen the top (don't remove). Then, you can 'swing' the assembly up and get the clearance needed.
