Deal Alert: General G-Max AS-05

Tirerack has has general's new UHPAS tire at a great intro price right now along with a $70 Visa gift card mail-in rebate. The previous AS-03 was a good performing tire but a bit noisy due to the directional tread. The new model does away with the directional tread and the new tread more closely resembles it's upscale cousin, the Continental DWS06. While there are limited reviews at this time, the price is well worth the minimal risk. I just got 4 brand new tires in 225/55r17 for $303 after the rebate.

Sounds like a good deal, I got some Continental DW Max summers in 285/40/18 for $135 each (regular price was $265 each). I like checking them out pretty often, they are good about throwing nice deals out there for sure! Got my Kumho Ecsta Max summers for 1/2 off too last year, lol. LOVE TIRERACK!

They are not garbage. They aren't top-tier tires but they're competent. I had them on my Dakota but I wouldn't put them on my G or Miata.

I had the General Exclaims on the back of a car I used to own, they got rid of them when they came up with the AS and now replaced those with the AS 05. The Exclaims were excellent, I wish Tirerack had a review on the AS 05s, I am very curious about them. The price 111 and 115 for the std staggered 18s is good and 70 off makes them better.

Tires keep getting better, these were just introduced them they come after the DW and DWS 06, I expect them to be better than the 03s, which have been eclipsed by the newest a/s tires.

BTW, which wheels are these? I believe these are off a G37xs and should fit mine. As I have mentioned, I am tempted to go with a square setup 245s all the way around. Do they weigh any more than the duckfeet?

Those are 2007-2008 G35 sedan sport wheels. On the S and XS model sedan.

They even had those split spoke 18s from newer models too, not really a certain cutoff date IIRC, but a great looking wheel. If you have or plan to get a big brake kit you'd need spacer to clear the calipers. Had them on our 07 G35, and IIRC they are about a 26 lb wheel give or take.

Sorry I put a higher value on my life. The tires are the only thing connecting your car to the ground.

lol, ok, either you don't recognize that adding a second to your hot lap time doesn't have equate at all with safety or you're just trolling. Bring your summer tires up here in the winter and see how connected to the ground you are

Got them put on and did a short trip. My suspicions that the ride and noise issues with the earlier 03 model were fixed was confirmed. This is a good riding tire and quiet. I'll get you my impressions on the handling after i give them 500 miles to break in...unless i die in the meantime as surfnazi suggests.

Still not dead. Did about 40 miles of mixed driving in pouring rain yesterday. Tires stick well in the wet

So, a few more thoughts. I think this is definitely the little brother to the DWS that my father has on his Mercedes. It has great traction, especially in the wet, and a great ride but the side walls are a little bit soft for getting the best slalom numbers, if that happens to be your thing. I increased the pressure all around from 35 to 38 PSI. This improved the sidewall roll greatly with a negligible effect on the ride
