Akebono sport brakes lead to premature brake wear?

Hey all

Just a moment ago, my 2013 G37S sedan w/ 39k miles started screeching loudly while in motion (screech would go away when braking). I freaked out, realized it was *probably* the brake wear indicator kicking in.

But I can't believe it!! I checked the service history and as part of the CPO-certification process, the dealership had replaced the rear brake pads at 34.5k miles, and I had a PPI done for the car before I purchased it, they inspected the brake pads at 7mm all around.

How on earth did my rear pads wear down to basically nothing in 5k miles (or 6 months)?! I read somewhere and I cannot recall where exactly but someone experienced an issue where they had to "replace their pads at 11k miles due to defective Akebonos". Could something else be causing this loud metallic screeching noise?

Do you think I would have any luck bringing this back to the dealership and arguing that I should get new rear pads under warranty?

If not, I will probably just bring it to my preferred repair shop and have them put in new Stoptech pads...

If the brakes are screeching when your not braking, it's something else.
The oem akebonos wear will depend on how the car is driven. You can wear it out completely in one track day if you try hard enough.

I believe new pads have about 11 mm or so of friction material so they weren't changed out just before you bought the car. Take it in and have them inspected to see what the issue is.

Odd - the sound was gone when I started the car up this morning. My gut tells me it was a pebble or hard object that got stuck between the pad and rotor temporarily last night.
