Tire Selection
Tire Selection
Hi all,
It's come down to tire selection. Two contenders, they both come in around $150 each. They are both rated very well for performance. I own a set of BFG Comp 2s which I have used for the last year in 225/55/17. They are very nice and I am satisfied.
So the question is
Sumitomo HTR Z III Max Summer
or
BF Goodrich Comp 2 Ultra Summer
The tire size is 255 45 18. Wheels are 18x9 +35.
Lots of reasons for the smaller size rims, but light rims are really important to me, as it affects handling feel and acceleration response. I made my wheel selection, and although it's a little different, I have my reasons and once again a light wheel is paramount. If money no object i would have a Rays 57XX in 18x9.5 all around. But I am on a limited budget and a cheap old bastard
So Konig Oversteer in 18x9 +35 is my choice, and I hope they weigh in at 20-21 lbs. Not sure yet as they are due here at the end of the week. But they are MAT formed and I have reports of these wheels coming in at under 21lbs.

Thanks to MyG37 The OFFICIAL "I have a wheel offset / tire fitment question!" thread for helping me with the fitment decisions.

If you've been happy w/ the BFGs they should be even better in the wider footprint.
Might give these a look too~

The BFG is a great option as a dd tire that will hold up, ride well and take beating when asked. Sumi's are okay for a more cost effective option, but the better tire hands down are those Comp-2's.
