Brakes Squealing
Brakes Squealing
Hey guys, wondering if any of you have experienced this and what your fix was. My brakes started squealing a high pitched annoying sound about a month ago when I would apply the brakes while going in reverse. Ex. backing out of a parking spot.. I assumed it was just bad brake pads so I took it to the shop for them to decide what needed to be done. They replaced the pads(can't remember if it was all 4 or just 2, I am going to call them today), and cleaned the rotors. I noticed it still made the noise just not as bad. Seems to be getting a little louder and last night I actually noticed the noise while braking as a slow speed going forward as well. Before the pads replaced and now, it only seems to do it when the car has been sitting for a while and will be fine most of the day if I am consistently using it often.
Any suggestions? Only thing I can think of is the pads so I am very confused. The noise is incredibly annoying, sounds terrible and makes me cringe when I hear it. please help!!

Thanks, I will give that a try as I am sure it can't make it any worse. Do you need to disassemble or remove anything or can I spray all of that from the outside?
Yes, you'll need to remove the pads and it's not a spray but a brush that's angled so you can get into tight places. Just be careful if you get any grease on the rotors be sure to use some brake cleaner on a rag to get it all off.

If you just *paid* to have this service done, I'd take it back to the shop and let them correct it.
If you're going to tackle this yourself, get an assistant who's done this before to supervise. Brakes are a critical safety item and best left to professionals (or at least a shop with liability insurance).
Edit, and btw, no kidding, I had a friend back in HS who tried to do this on his own car. Smeared the goop on both sides of the pads!
