Rotor Research
Hey guys,
I'm looking to replace all of my rotors, so I've been trying to do some rotor research. I only do some occasional tracking, nothing intense.
First question: is there a difference in performance between all of the brands? I see lots of cheap ones on ebay, Centric/Stoptech, and pricey ones like the DBA.
Is the difference just the build quality? They all seem to be made the same way. How different can they possibly be? I see posts of people saying ebay rotors might crack on you, etc. but is this just from assumption because they're cheap or does anyone have any horror stories?
second, slotted vs slotted/drilled? is there really a difference or is it just for looks? I would think for normal use, drilled doesn't sound necessary, and instead there would be less surface for brake grip?
thanks!

Unless you really need the weight reduction of 2 pc rotors I'd just run Centric Premium blanks, these have zinc coating and better venting than the Centric C-Tek blanks. I've had good experience w/ Stoptech Street Pads, they dust more than OEM but it sounds like brake bite is a priority and these bite like a sewer rat, especially when warmed up.
I think you'd be really happy w/ this combo, especially after their aggressive bed-in~

+1 for Centric Premium. Good rotors at a great price.
I have a differing theory on track use brake components... I ran a completely seperate set of rotors and pads dedicated to track use: DBA5000 slotted fronts (2-piece), DBA4000 slotted rears. Hawk DTC 60's at each corner.
My justification for this was that track pads/rotors take a beating with hot/cold cycling. Street pads/rotors take a beating with road crap and glazing is common, even if bedded properly. I do not want a failure on the track, nor on the street, so having a dedicated track set allowed me to carefully inspect the components during changes and not worry about pad brand or composition compatibility.
Slotted are good for the track, unnecessary for the street. No drilled, ever. Good drilled rotors are cost-prohibitive since the good ones are heat treated to handle the change in ductility created by drilling. Poorly made drilled rotors are prone to cracking and complete failure because of this. Besides, from a straight physics POV, less mass means less heat absorption capabilities.
For track (light) only: DBA4000 or stoptech for rotors and Hawk HT10 pads.
For a compromise: Either of the above rotors or the Centrics and Stoptech Street, Ferrodo 2500, or Hawk (something...can't remember the style) for the pads.
These more aggressive pads dust a LOT, so buy some P21S while you're at it! Oh, and if you don't have them already, I highly recommend SS brake lines.

does anyone have a guide for all the different G37 rotor diameters? I understand the Sport models have the bigger rotors.. any difference between the Sedan and Coupes? are there any changes in model years?
G37 Base: 330mm Front/330mm Rear
Doesn't matter if you have coupe or sedan.
theres..
G37 Sedan Base & G37x: 320mm Front / 307mm Rear
G37 Coupe Base: 330mm Front / 330mm Rear
G37S Coupe & Sedan: 355mm Front / 350mm Rear
This is true for all year models?

The Big S brakes started in 08 for the coupe and 09 for the sedan, not 100% sure on the 07 & 08 G35 sedan S and Base brake sizes but from 09+ those ones you posted are correct.
Yours should have the base coupe brakes, but at least they're still bigger than the base sedan brakes at 330mm front & rear.
