What coilovers do I pick?!
Hey guys I am looking for some advice, I have a $1000 budget and I am looking for a decent set of coilovers. Please tell me what you think!

You might be better served spending just a little more than that and buying Koni dampers and Swift springs. It's a great combo with a good drop that are top quality components. $1000 coilovers aren't particularly great. I recently made the switch from lower end coilovers (what you can buy for about $1000) to Koni/Swift and it's fantastic.
first, welcome to the forum. i just did the Tanabe coilovers install on my ride and i like it very much. did a great job for dropping the height and still kept a good driving experience. if you want to know more just message me and i can let you know more.
I had the tanabe coils, then switched to the kw v1. It’s a world of a difference between a cheap set of coilovers and a more expensive one. The KW handle better and the ride is so much superior to the tanabe. Whatever you do, do not buy the bc racing junk coils. I highly recommend the KW v1 or v3, more expensive but you get what you pay for

I bought coils because I wanted adjustable height and BC Coils treated me great for two years for under a grand. If I was building a track car they definitely wouldn't be my coils of choice.

Im in the same boat... Been debating of getting budget coils or just springs and upgrade shock/struts to koni later on.
From what I have gathered, Tanabe is good but tends to have issues (i think it has something to do with leaking) after a year or so... Tein Basis is decent but no damper adjustment and it seems that Megan is the best bang for the buck... Then a little more than $1k you can get Stance and a little more you can get KW V1.

i ended up getting kw v3's off of here for about 850 shipped. Comes up like that rarely but i've seen it a couple times. Kw's are fantastic coilovers, so it all depends if you want them now or want to sit and wait for the right pair.

I got Tanabe on mine. I like the ride for what it is. I don't track the car nor anything crazy. Just a daily driver.
But as of others have said, I would avoid BC and KW is superior as well which justifies the cost.

I debated for a while. I ended up scrapping the coil over idea and going with springs. Have yet to put them in but went Tokico with H&R Springs. I've had H&R for my last several cars and LOVED them. My commute is a whole 8 miles round trip and dont see myself constantly adjusting, although the big selling point is to have it set for the perfect ride height that one time and the ability to adjust when they inevitably start to sag.

@Jkrahe, One of the Coilovers I haven't seen mention was STANCE, Diego from Vossen had KW's before he went to Air Ride on his G37 though he was on Stance Prior to KW's and so I had looked into the STANCE Coilovers and coming from TEIN springs was like day and night... after numerous messages back and forth with Diego I decided to get the Stance Coilovers and couldn't be happier... Strait out of the box it was sitting low with no Adjustments and decided to go even lower with only a Toe bolt to finely tune it in... as for the Cost? it's within your budget and I highly recommend them... Not one issue and I wish they had them for my Q50... I've spoke to STANCE and they are considering them for the Q50 so I'll be looking for more updates as I keep talking to them... Let me know if you need anything and I'll be glad to help you in any way I can...
If you've got a low budget I think I'd go w/ the Tein Basis, for a daily driver the adjustable damper feature is a but overrated IMO (especially on the cheaper setups), sure they have 15 to 32 click adjusters but there's only a small range in the middle that's suitable for daily driving. If you don't plan on tracking the car I'd either go w/ the Tein Basis, or move up to the KwV1s.
If you do plan on fairly regular track duty then the KWv3 FTW.
There's so many choices out there, I have Megan LPs FWIW and they've been decent, but I have little or no need for the adjustable dampers, I've set them & forgot them for the last 30k miles. I think any coilover will be better than a lowering spring/stock OEM damper setup, but Black Bettys' Koni/Swift would also be something to consider for sure.
