I wonder if the new generation Skylines (new Infiniti G37) will have this technology? It looks amazing.

Ugh, given how much I hate active steering which has been in the market for some time, I don't see how this would be a great performance option. Good for efficiency though (and heck, Porsche has gone to electric PS but even they have gotten poor feedback for it).

Let's just say I won't be an early adopter, and remain skeptical even when the technology has matured.

Thanks for posting though... good to see innovation moving forward.

Interesting technology. It'll be good to see how real world feedback on it is. It is certainly a drastic change form current steering systems and would definitely take some getting used to as a driver. But it would stand to reason that the brilliant design and engineering team that Nissan has (see what I did there Sam? ) would have taken this into account before sinking a ton of resources into developing it.

I'll be more than happy to let someone else buy a G with this installed to test it out and do a review.

Until then, I'll just say....most people hate change. Example, Nissan's CVT transmission.

Looks like the G will definitely get this technology sooner rather than later. And perhaps it's better than some of you seem to think.

Driving Nissan's New Steer-By-Wire System

Luckily, Nissan has a third motor, mounted at the steering wheel assembly, to transfer feel and resistance to the driver. This part makes a huge difference.
Sam, you could have just told us that it would be on the G when you posted this. Jerk.

LOL I figured you'd get it when you read this:

The Nippon automaker calls this “steer-by-wire” technology and will be implemented in mass-produced cars wearing the Infiniti badge.

I figured it would eventually, but not so soon. But when I went back to reread the article you linked to, it does say "first models to be launched within a year". I missed that the first time. Reading Is Fundamental.

I guess nobody is reading the blog that I linked at all that has the review. If you read the comments on the blog where the journalist/enthusiast reviewed his actual impressions of actually driving the car vs his negative preconceptions, the overwhelming majority of those commenters have determined that it is from the devil too. Personally I'm very excited to actually try it out. It does sound weird and like it would fly in the face of the "driving experience" but I'm willing to give it a try. Considering the type of mods that are the most popular with members of our forum, I'm surprised so many people actually care.

Wrong. I read the blog. I'm interested to try it out given the positive review. Not promising I'll like it though; I'll make my own assessment on that.

I would check it out, but what happens when it fails? That would suck not to be able to steer your car----right off a cliff!! Could be worse than the Toyota accerlerator fiasco.

Did you not read or do you not understand how this system works?
