Just Picked up some 19" Wheels for my G37 Sedan

I just got a 2009 G37 Sedan, Black on Black and it had 17" Wheels on it and I wasn't planning on chaging it, BUT.

I just picked up a Pair of Stock OEM 19" Wheels locally that came off a LOCAL member's 2008 G37 COUPE with 23K miles. I got them for $600 which I guess is fair. Now I have to spend some money on 4 new tires.

I am going to be selling my Stock OEM 17" that are MINT (not a single scratch) with the 17" tires on them eventually, so if anyone needs any, let me know.

Oh ya, I am going to get Flamed, but, I am getting Chrome Wheels for my G37 Black Sedan. I hope I don't look like a Gangsta, I just want sporty/Classy.

I have to send in my set to get Chromed from LA Wheel & Tire. It's a Great Deal, IF, you have the samwe size stock OEM's to trade in. That is why I bought these.

Now, on to my Questions.

What Tires should I get?

Where should I get them?

Will the 19" tires handle worse or better?

NOW I have Staggered Rims (see size below) What does this do? Anything? I know I can't get tires rotated, does it ride different?

Anything you can tell me is appreciated.

My new 19" Rims are:
19 X 8.5 in Front
19 X 9.0 in Rear

Tire Size for my New Tires are:
Front Size225/45R-19XL 96Y VSBRear Size245/40R19XL 98Y VSB

I hope I made a good choice to get 19's

Bandit...........

Congratulations.

FWIW, in this day and age, there is nothing classy or sporty about chrome wheels. Something to think about.

Check out TireRack for tire suggestions. Just plug in a coupe for the tire selector.

As for handling, it depends on the type of tire. A 19" Grand Touring tire will handle worse than a 17" Max Performance Summer, etc. Basically, the answer to that question depends highly on which tire you end up getting. Also, chroming wheels will significantly add to its weight, affecting handling and ride quality.

A staggered set-up, all else being equal, helps the rear-end get planted and prevents it from kicking out and in front of you. There are other ways of achieving it (thicker/thinner sways, stiffer/softer springs/dampers, higher/lower tire pressures, etc.), this is just one of those options.

Rotation can be done but only L-R on either front or rear axle separately, not mixed up between them. How rotations can be done will depend on the tire design -- more on that here: Tread Patterns - Tire Talk | Tire Rack

Sorry to thread jack..

But staggered means that the rear wheels are wider than the front wheels right? thus preventing rotating?

is it possible to use the same size tire for all four wheels on a RWD? like all rears or all fronts? and IF it is possible does this mean that you can rotate the tires?

I have a 2008 G37S coupe with the 19's. I put Michelin Pilot Super Sports on them in January this year. Lots of tread left on these tires and they ride awesome.

I'm in the market for new rims so they are going up for sale. (rims and tires) I'm willing to sell them separately. If you're interested in some good tires I can email you some pics.

Why? Just curious? Not bashing ya at all, just want to know why people on the forum HATE Chrome rims. Now everyone has got me questioning my coolness. LOL They look good on my 2001 C5 Vette, Have Z06 Chrome Rims.

With OEM, I thought if you DID Put on Chrome, that would look the best, vs. aftermarket.

Maybe I should just put on the Stock OEM wheels as is?

different times...different types of cars. chrome may look good on a vette, back in 2001, or any cars back in the 80s or early 90s. but not on this car and today. but again, different tastes for different people. my dad likes chrome. but he's also 80 yrs old. at the end of the day, if you think it's cool and like it, that's all that matters. don't do something based on what others like.

Sniper, Glad me and your 80 year old Dad have the same Taste. LOL My dad is 77 and he likes them too. Like Father, Like son!

Thanks for the Great advice. Your right, got to do what you like, but also, you don't let your friends go out in public looking like a fool, so I appreciate your concern!

Thanks Man!

Vette at the Track many years back. Ran a BEST of 11.23 at 126 MPH in the 1/4 Mile. Still have it and it has 34,700 Miles. Have done every Mod Known to Man. Would have just put a Super Charger on it next time.

Heads, Cam, Intake, No cats, Sxhaust, Gears, Throttle Boddy, UD Pulley, Bigger injectors, high volume fuel pump and oil pumo, different Built Tranny, I even have a 100 shot of Nitrous, BUT, only sprayed it half a dozen times and don't drive around with the bottle in it.

None taken, and i hope you didn't take it the wrong way either.

I come from the mindset of "less is more". In the case of wheels, the OEM's are fairly heavy to begin with. Chroming it would add significant unsprung weight that would translate to a rougher ride, more wear on the suspension, change acceleration and braking distances and possibly a drop in mpg.

However, on that last item, in my 70k miles of documenting the G, i have not been able to find any significant changes in MPG. That's based on having swapped between heavy and lightweight wheels, tires, changing aerodynamics via Infiniti's touted OEM kits (supposedly reduces lift front/rear), lowering the vehicle, as well as putting on significantly lighter 2-pc rotors.

Having tracked your 'Vette, i'm sure you understand all that, and value a change in performance measured in 10ths of a second. I go on HPDE's myself.

I will reserve judgement on looks as that can be very subjective. Although, putting this out there, have you considered a fully-polished finish? Same look, just more... modern.

Polished might be the way to go. GREAT Suggestion! KI was just looking at my stock Vette Rims (pics from the past). I always thought they were chrome, BUT,they weren't, they are polished!

Also, my wife's RX330 (2006) I THOUGH had chrome rims, but now that I look, it's NOT Chrome, they are POLISHED!! They look nice and make the ride look cool, but not TOO BLINGY.

Can you Polish STOCK 10" Coupe OEM Wheels? They don't look like they can be Polished?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Now I have to research that. Great suggestion. I really appreciate it.

I need to go look at some Pics............. The 19's Look WAY better than the small 17's.
