G37XS Winter Wheel and Tire Question

Im new here, just bought a new G37xs and was wondering if there would be any issues of going to down to a 17 inch wheel from 18 on my car for winter time only. (Save a few bucks on wheels and snow tires). Plus I want to leave of the TPMS sensors.

I'm pretty sure the sensors are mounted on your wheels. So If you buy 17's for the winter you will need to buy new sensors for those wheel and they are not cheap. Other things you can do is buy 17's with no sensors and ignore the warning light on your dash, or just mount the winter tires on your stock wheels. I do this myself with my car. My Blizzak's are being mounted on my stock wheels right now as I type.

17's will fit fine and a 225-55-17 should perform a little better in the snow compared to a 225-50-18 because the 17's will be a little bit narrower. But it might not be that noticeable.

One last thing I drove an 08xS in the winter through snow with the stock all season tires and I was fine. But my current RWD G with the winter tires drives better in the snow compared to my old xS with the stock all season tires. The only advantage the xS has over my RWD with winter tires is starting from an incline dues the the 4 wheel drive.

Last point, winter tires are not easy to find in December. Ideally you should of bought them already.

Wrong wrong wrong!

Going from a 18 to 17" wheel while maintaining the same width tire will not result in a narrower tire!!

While your overall diameter may remain the same (or close to it) and not throw off your speedo, you won't gain much of anything else (maybe cheaper tires in 17" than 18). A 225 width tire is still 225, regardless if it's on a 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, or 20" wheel

I show no issues using a 17" tire and wheel package on that car. You can transfer the exisiting sensors over to the new wheels also if you didnt want to purchase a second set. Call me direct for some options!

Transferring sensors is not an issue. We have winter and all season tire packages available as well. We also offer mounting, balancing, installation and alignment for optimal traction in inclement conditions.

I thought the second number refer to over-all width of the tire, but I was wrong. Good thing I don't sell tires for a living.
Regardless my Blizzak have been installed and I'm ready for winter. The bad part is my summer tires are shot, will be needing new tires next spring.
