I'm thinking about purchasing a winter setup with the blizzaks LM-25 225/50-18... this means I will need to purchase a set of 18" rims.. the ones on tirerack are expensive... anyone know where I can find them cheaper? if not what other wheels can I use for this setup? (I get a lot of snow where I live)

I'm wonderinghe same thing. Out my way, I've found a few people selling stock nissan 350 rims, with 225/45/18, and 245/45/18 Winters ready to go. Will these work?

I'm in the same boat as you. Planning on buying the 225/50 -18 blizzaks from tirerack (don't waste your money on the TPMS for winter wheels) I ran blizzaks for 3 winters on my IS300 and they were awesome. Tireracks 18" wheel selection is a little pricey for me right now. I found some decent 18's at discounttire.com for about 129-140 each. Only downside in buying from 2 different sites is losing out on free mount/balance.
Anyone know if I'll need to get spacers for the G37S with the 18" wheels? I think the spacing was 40mm on the set I found.

in Canada, winter tires are a must.
summer tires only go so far and all seasons are not that great either.

What? $120/alloy 18" rim is fairly cheap. You can't buy steelies since none will clear the BBK if you have a sport model. Look at the price of the OEM rims as a point of reference.

I was quote $1450+shipping for the Tirerack package (with Blizzak LM-25 225/50/18 tires). That's a fair price considering the tires you're receiving.

However, I think I'm gonna go with Nokian tires (either the Hakka5 or the WR G2) since I've have good experience with them. They are siped all the way down and don't use 2 different rubber compounds (Blizzaks are great 1/2 way ... then they use "all-season" compound for the bottom half of the tread). Nokian tires are from Finland -- they know what winter is all about!

They are the best for winter conditions. Check out where Nokian has their proving grounds, 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle:

They are still gripping because it is a traction tire. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R is a new tire they just released that is labeled Ultra Low Rolling Resistant:

Here is some good information Josh (guy I talked to on the phone from Tiresbyweb) shared with me. The tires are designed for extreme winter conditions obviously, but they do take into account some winter driving will be on cleared roads. Looks like a sweet tire!
