I like to use the armor-all gel. I would say it's the least messiest out of all the products that i've used. I like their applicator that they give you in the pack.

I use Zaino's, which is water based. you want to stay away from silicone based tire shines (Black Magic) which take longer to dry, will sling off, suck moisture OUT of your tires, and eventually lead to browning.

water based have the oposite effects of the above.

Great point about being water based... Poorboys is water based as well.

This is what I use on my car. If you let it sit for an hour or so it looks like a black mirror. Looks amazing.

I second this one. I've been using Bold N Bright recently and it's the best tire shine product you can hope for; water-based, won't sling, and protects the tires.

All of the Autozone crap will make sling go all over your paint, dry your tires and eventually brown them out.
