EBrake weak.
EBrake weak.
The EBrake on my new G is VERY weak. On anything more than a 10% grade, it can't even hold the car in place...While moving at only 15mph, it doesn't stop the car in under 20 ft.
I tried "breaking it in" by pulling the brake whie moving for a few seconds to "set the pad".....no help.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Nevermind - found how to adjust it in the FSM...already adjusted and fixed it....
(for 6MTs, remove velvet coin holder next to Cup Holder and tighten 10mm bolt in there with a deep socket)
MUCH better!

On 6MTs, the car should be parked in gear in conjunction with the parking brake. Their is no emergency brake in our vehicles, however their is a parking brake. 5ATs have a park position that should be used with the Parking Brake. 6MTs don't have a park per say, but when parking you leave them in gear. NEVER, NEVER use the parking brake alone when parking any vehicle. The words below are an excerpt from the Infiniti owner's manual on the proper parking procedure:
1. Firmly apply the parking brake.
2. Automatic transmission models:
Move the selector lever to the P (Park)
position.
Manual transmission models:
Place the shift lever in the R (Reverse) gear.
When parking on an uphill grade, place the
shift lever in the 1st gear.

Actually, unless you are parked on an incline, no matter what it says in the owners manual, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave it in gear. Leaving it in gear creates huge problems if your parked car is ever hit. First, the car becomes unmovable, so the physical damage is greatly magnified. Second, your gear box will become trashed if hit while parked in gear.

I'm not sure I agree the physics back that up... a 3700lb car sitting at rest and mildly secured with a parking break will be "unmovable" plenty enough to be thoroughly damaged if it by anything traveling at sufficient speed that it would "trash" a transmission.

See what I mean, people like this actually exist. You used one more NEVER than I did, but your completely and utterly WRONG
God help the person standing down hill of your car when it gets nudged and starts to roll.Lou
Ooh, I was just about to make a post on this as well. My e-brake does feel weak. I'll try the adjustment procedure when I get home.
Unfortunately, I'm not a highly experienced MT driver (driven stick a fair amount of times, but this is my first MT). I do leave my car in neutral most of the time and just use the parking brake. However, if I'm on an incline or decline, then I put the car in gear before turning the engine off. But usually I put it in 1st and never reverse. I never even did that until about 6 years ago when my friend parked his accord on another friend's driveway and barely pulled his ebrake. When we went to his car an hour later, it was sitting in the middle of the street hahaha.
I never heard of putting the gear in reverse though when parking...only 1st. What's the difference between the two options?

I've been leaving mine in neutral, but now I'm going to start putting it in gear, though I'm not sure how I'd do that without making the car stall. I guess you turn the car off first, then gear it?
