2008 and newer V36 (G35, G37, Q40) brakes

There are four sets of OEM brakes for the V36 platform. (Work in progress)
  • Base Journey sedans (both RWD and AWD) all use the same 320/307 mm rotors and have two-piston front calipers and single-piston rear calipers. Coupes in 2008 and 2009 also used these brakes.
  • Beginning 2010, base coupes (including AWD) got larger and thicker 330/330 mm rotors and calipers to fit.
  • Convertibles use 330/330 mm brakes as standard.
  • RWD Sport models (including convertibles) use Akebono/Brembo* with larger 355/350 mm rotors with 4-piston front calipers and two-piston rear calipers.
  • G37xS use 320/307mm for sedan, and the XS coupe gets the big Akebono Sport (355/350mm set)

If your car comes with the small rotors, you cannot just slap larger pads into the calipers or slip on larger rotors, you must swap rotors and caliper as a set. Assume that both front and rear must be swapped to maintain brake bias. See here for Akebono part numbers

Stock 17s will not clear the front Akebono calipers. Non-Sport 9-spoke 18-inch wheels will clear. Infiniti offered 18s (so-called Duckfeet) for the sedan S and 19s for the coupe S that clear the big brakes and will fit any year V36. Use This template to determine if aftermarket wheels in which you're interested will clear the Akebonos.

*Akebono is the JDM supplier for Nissan/Infiniti big brakes. Some Infiniti dealers deal with Brembos on other models and just call any big-brake set-up by that name. Be sure to clarify when talking to a dealer parts department. In addition, "Akebono" is not seen on the G/Q calipers, only "Infiniti". These brakes also come on some Z34 (370Z) models but are labeled ???.

Hi Guys,
Am Issa, but you can call me Almo.
This is the first time I participate, I have reed some subjects and it was really helpful and useful really glad am joining Myg37 family.

I own Q40 2015 17 inch rims with some little modes here and there, may aim is performance. And so I was reading one subject about Z1 rotor really like the different in weight compare to the stock one but not much with the price.
I was wondering well this fit my vehicle or I would need to do some upgrades for other parts ?

Compare the Z1 rotor diameter with those on your car. Z1 front rotors are 355 mm and fit the Sport models. As I wrote above, 17 inch wheels don't fit over the Sport brakes.

I bought a set of non-Sport 18" wheels as a winter set for my 2013 xS coupe (not sure if these are the wheels you are talking about). The clearances are very tight, but they do fit.

Winter rims

I bought these 18 inch infiniti replica wheels so i could run 225 on all 4 corners and downsize from stock 19s from the S for snows. They clear calipers

18 inch infiniti replica wheels, Fit over large calipers easily*

Those are replica 370Z wheels. They never came on US G35 or G37 to my knowledge.

That said, it's nice to have confirmation they will clear the Akebonos.

Where, if I may ask, did the 370 replica wheels come from?

i just went to my local tire guy i deal with to buy blizzaks and said i want to downsize to 225 18inch rims on all 4 corners for winters and need something to clear my large front calipers. He just ordered those for me and assured me they would clear.
Just ask for the replicas from any rim/tire shop and they will score them for you. i didnt order them online so i dont have a link for you unfortunately.

*They are on my car now and im not having any issues with them at all ( you will need new lugs for them as your stock ones wont fit but eh lugs are like 1 to 2 bucks each so not a big deal)

My car is a 2008 G35 sedan RWD Sport. Based on the information here I should have Akebonos but sadly I don't...I dont think ANY G35, whether it had the Sport package or not, got Akebonos. Thoughts anyone...??

09 coupe

I'm not sure if it has to do with manufacture date 10/09 or 11/09 can't recall but my base coupe came with 330mm rotors front and back with huge single piston calipers up front.
