Tien Basis Coilovers Own

For those who have these coilovers; Do you experience coil slap (when spring coils touch/ hit each other)? And if so how did you fix.

The only way spring coils will touch each other is if you bind them by fully compressing them. In that case, your spring rate is too soft for the the application.

Do you perchance have progressive rate springs? The above does not apply to them, only to constant rate springs.

No these coilovers have linear springs. My alignment shop told me the noise he hears is coil slap and it's an annoyance with some coilovers and would either live with it or get some of Tien rubber silence sleeves to get rid of the noise. I have never touched the coils since installed 2 years ago.

I wonder if he means the coils are vibrating against the damper body?

Do you get the noise from all corners?

Can he tell you how preload was applied to the springs? Most coil-overs specify 5 mm or so of compression on the springs to make sure they stay seated and don't rattle.

Noise comes only from fronts and only when turning wheel after driving car for a few miles. Tech only took a ride with me to see what I was referring to. He did nothing else.

Makes no sense to me but without being able to hear it myself, I'm done.
