Question Super bouncy ride ksport

Hey forum, so ive been riding in my g for almost a year now, I bought it with ksport coilovers and I feel like there is something horribly wrong with the quality of ride, everytime I hit a hole car bounces and people in the rear break their necks. Ive read on the forum that the original spring has to be removed but im sort of noob in the car world, so i need some clarification because even car mechanic that I go to doesnt seem to be sure...

So my question is, should there be another spring(strut) that can be adjusted from under the hood, or is it extra part that shouldn't be there ?

Make sure preload is set properly. There should be directions on this, but if they are anything like the Megan Racing coilovers I have on my Stealth you tighten the lower spring perch just until it is hard to turn the spring by hand then tighten the locknut up against it.

Also be aware that coilovers don't ride anything like factory suspension. They are harsher. To some people they are too harsh. I personally love(d) my coilovers. I can't wait to get my car back on the road and go carve some backroads up in it.

Thanks for the response, i understand that the ride is going to be harsher, but with proper settings it shouldn't be a huge difference from what ive read so far.

Still coilovers supposed to replace the stock struts, right? But I have both stock strut and coilovers which I think might be the reason for my bouncy car.

What do you mean you still have the oem struts and coilovers??? Do you mean you have one pair of stock dampers and another the Ksport coilovers?

Please explain what you've got going on, any pics would help. Until you said you had the stock struts as well I would have said preload or you're riding mainly on the springs (not enough damping) so you'd need to turn your adjusters a few more clicks to the firm side. Do this by turning all the way firm (clockwise), then all the way back to full soft, then go up about 10 clicks, take it for a good drive and see if it's better, then make small changes in either direction.

So im alittle fuzzy, the things that i can adjust under the hood are dampers? Right? Do i need them if i have the coilovers? My mechanic adjusted my front dampers and the ride is still rough but the front feels alot less bouncy, but rear dampers from my understanding cant be reached without removing the dampers, right?

That pic is the entire front coilover assembly, the damper is the shock absorbing cylinder and w/ the coil mounted over the shock (hence the term "coilover" ).

The rear should have an adjustment **** on the top area of the shock, it varies from brand to brand. My Megan coilovers have a **** that you can get to if you raise the back end up, and you reach above the tire to access the ****. I think the KSport you may have to remove the shock or get a remote cable adjuster.

Monotube dampers (the "shock absorber") will have the adjuster at the top. Twin-tubes can, but might not, have the adjuster on the side or bottom. Sounds like the dampers are full-stiff. Try them at full soft then work up to comfortable.

Coil-overs can ride better than the stock S suspension.

Try 25 clicks to hard for front, and 20 clicks to hard on rear.

preload should be set no more than 5mm after ring touches spring by hand

On the picture does it look like the coil is way too tight??? Because the car was adjusted to the softest dampening, and the ride is still crappy, so I think the coils are set up really badly.

Btw thanks for clearing up my confusion, I didnt know there were 3 settings on the coil haha damn live and learn

I don't know what the uncompressed spring height is, but just looking at the photo makes it look like the spring has a ton of preload on it.

Also, looking at the pic don't be surprised if you have a hard time adjusting that by the looks of the corrosion.

I'd agree w/ the last 2 replies, seems like the spring is very compressed, that pic should be what the coilover would look like if you just hit a big curb or pothole. Looks to be almost to the bumpstops.

I would remove the coilovers in front, set the preload which just needs to be 5mm, then reinstall them and adjust the height collars to get the height you want. Spray a bunch of PB blast or WD40 on the threads while you're at it. FWIW it may take quite a bit of force to get those collars loose, those springs are going to be putting a lot of force on them

If you have true coilovers in back (which I believe the Ksports only come that way) you'll need to do the same in back.
Once you get the preload back to normal I'd set the dampers at the halfway point (like 16 clicks up from fully soft) and go from there.

Here's what a typical front coilover should look like installed, notice the spring is under much less compression.

In that Condition I wouldn't rule out blown shocks
