Overview before I order coilovers

Hello all, after reading and looking I want to post here what I am thinking and see if it lines up with reality.

I have a 2008 G37s coupe with stock wheels. I want to put 245/40 on the front and 275/35 on the back on the stock rims. I want to buy coilovers and lower the front 2 inches and the back 1 inch.

Here are my questions:
  1. Will I be able to keep the camber in factory spec without rolling or trimming the finders, so the wheels won't rub?
  2. Do I need front and rear camber kits to adjust the camber enough to keep it in spec?
  3. Will an alignment shop know how to adjust the aftermarket camber kit?

I want to make sure I think of everything before I put coilovers on and run into some pain in the "a" problem.

Thank you very much for advice, thoughts, and input!!

1. No rolling necessary with stock wheels.
2. Most likely, yes.
3. Most likely, yes.

Thanks guys! I am just hoping I can find an alignment place that can deal with aftermarket parts. I guess I should call around.

Yes alignment by a good shop is needed- stay away from tire works/discount tire places- I learned the hard way

So I am going to need to spend, realistically, $2000-2500 to do it right... shucks.
I remember the old days with my 98 civic when I could simply cut a coil off each spring without even removing the strut from the car, and it was free!

Where are you located?

We can source you all the parts for a great price.

You COULD do that with a 98 civic, but it didn't change the spring rate. I also remember guys taking a torch to those springs to lower the car...also a bad idea.

He did indeed up the spring rate by cutting off a coil. Maybe 8 to 10%. It's easy to calculate spring rate as long as you can measure dimensions when off the car.

Troll the Porsche and Miata boards and find out where those guys are taking there cars for alignments. Lots of modded cars in those communities that are serious about their alignments.
