Now that "winter" has returned to North Carolina, so has my front suspension squeak.

I only observe this in the mornings, when the temperature is in the 40-45* range, and only when going over speed bumps/humps, of which, I have 8 that I need to transverse.

The squeak is only in the front.

When I drive home at night and the temperature is 45*+ no squeak.

Any thoughts on this? It kinda drives me crazy

Are the sway bar bushings the most likely culprit? I have Eibach sways, and I haven't lubricated the front bushings since I installed them 5 years ago.

There are no signs of leakage from the front shocks (Koni Yellows).

Is there any other front suspension component that would be sensitive to temperature changes? 45* seems to be the cutoff for the suspension squeaking.

 

Could be several rubber bushing areas such as in the control arms, those sway bar bushings are known to get that way over time and I imagine those colder temps would enhance that.

 

Try an easy fix first - hose off your spontaneous suspension with a garden hose to get rid of all the grit and grunge buildup. It can really build up over time and create noise when going over bumps, etc. - especially in the winter.

 

it's a design flaw in the front suspension. Mine does it whenever it feels like it. It doesn't get cold here, like, ever.

 

Not a design flaw, mine has never squeaked and our climates are similar.

 

I think your theory about the swaybar bushings has merit. Grease them up and see if you still have noise.

TSB? Hmmm. I've never investigated any of the TSBs other than the 7AT shift issue. Guess I better start reading that forum.

 

I put my car up this weekend, took off the under-body tray and removed the sway-bar bushings.

Sways were my first mod, back in summer 2012, and I haven't touched them since. Shame on me

I washed the bushings off in warm soapy water, and used an old towel to clean them all up. I couldn't really find anything online about cleaning bushings, but I figured if the dawn dish soap is ok for the little birds on the label, it should work for polyurethane. I also wiped down the actual sway bar and got 5 years and 45,000 miles worth of dust, dirt and other grime off the mounting points.

I lubed everything up with a marine grade silicone.

And the end results???

No more suspension squeak over speed bumps

 

Have you ever looked into getting bushing brackets with a zerk fitting for easy regreasing? I don't have any swaybar noises going on, but it's still something I've considered occasionally.

Having also recently resolved a suspension noise... grok, Lego.

 

I've thought about it, but haven't really researched it. I figure the ROI is really low considering how long the original grease lasted. It's pretty easy to access the FSB, and now I know if the noise ever returns what it likely is.

 

Glad to hear that you were able to solve your issue, Lego. The aftermarket sway bar bushings seem to need regular maintenance in order to stay quiet. I know if I don't lube the bushings on my Hotchkiss front sway bar every other year then they will start squeaking especially when it gets cold and/or wet... usually December/January out here in Southern CA is when it starts to show up. In fact I actually just replacement the front sway bar bushings last weekend while I had my front sway bar off for powder coating.







I've never heard of a TSB for suspension noise on the G37. Care to elaborate with a TSB number? Listed below is a list of all of the TSB's that I know of relative to the G37's suspension.

Man, you're killing me with that powdercoating. Fantastic color choice. I bet you've been pricing custom nut & bolt hardware for under the car, too. I'm thinking a satin finish on SS or Ti.

What is all that? Engine cradle braces, four-point frame brace, rear frame brace... and sways. The full rack of GT-Spec items. FSTB too, I'm guessing. Did you go ruby red metalic there too? What are those to tiny brackets? Do your springs match the same color?

I had the same issue with mine two winters ago and was the same thing. Glad you fixed it also! However at some point not sure why my front sway bar starting rubbing my undercarriage shield :/
