NISMO Brake upgrade on a sedan

Has anyone done this upgrade if so,is it truely worth it,or be better to just do the drilled and slotted rotors w ceramic pads.Just wondering,to note, the car is a G37xS Sedan. Thanks for the input.

Holes and slots are not an upgrade. Unless you race. A lot. Where every ounce of unsprung weight matters. And you are prepared to replace the rotors before they can crack.

If you're referring to drilled and slotted rotors you've got a point. However, I wouldn't deem a rotor upgrade to be a "waste" entirely. If OP doesn't already have the akebono setup drilled or slotted rotors would be a nice little upgrade, as both options dissipate heat more efficiently than normal blank rotors. True, OP wouldn't really be able to notice the FULL effects of the mod during day to day driving, but I'm sure it would help on a non-bbk setup.

OP, if you don't have the akebono brakes, your best bet for brake mods are SS lines, and better fluid/pads. Those mods alone should certainly create a difference in braking/pedal feel. If you feel the need to get different rotors go for it, but your most significant noticeable change will come from the aforementioned.

Brake discs are heat sinks. The more mass, the more heat they can absorb. Holes are counter-productive. After recently running a track event in the rain, I feel slots or holes to be unnecessary for good braking in the wet with the Akebonos.

Basically what I was going to say. Slotted and drilled is not an upgrade. It is for looks.

Agreed. And less surface area for pad contact.

Not sure I agree. While I cannot explain the thermodynamics behind it all, if you look at virtually every racecar out there, they are running either cross-drilled or slotted rotors. I am going to assume their engineering teams know more than we do.

Now, if you are not racing the vehicle, different story. But, the issue at hand was whether or not drilled/slotted shed heat more efficiently, and I would certainly say they do. I cannot imagine racers are using them just for the weight savings, but I have been wrong before.

They're also running purpose built brake components that get replaced each race vs a puny rotor a 14 year old kid in a dimly lit foundry in China drilled holes through

I get what you are saying, but can you say that a StopTech engineer, or whatever reputable brake company you would like to insert, does not understand the concept? I get they are trying to sell stuff, but again, it would not be used if it did not work. Thats pretty hard to argue.

As bling they work just fine. 99.9% of buyers won't try to race with their parts so they feel safe in selling.
