Rear brake pad review - Akebono Pro-ACT vs Centric Posi-Quiets

As a quick introduction, I'm no mechanic, and I'm basing everything off my personal experiences, and feelings. My experience may differ from yours, but that's why we write these reviews right?

Just a little under 2 years ago I installed Centric Posi-Quiets pads on all 4 corners of my 2012 G37x. In comparison to stock OEM pads, they provided sufficient stopping power, but I was underwhelmed by their performance after hearing about how they are equivalent or better than OEM. What I found is that it lacked that initial bite, and the only condition the brakes would actually perform decent is after they've warmed up. Needless to say, I was underwhelmed, and I left them on until they wore down. Now they're not terrible pads, and it lives up to it's less dust, low noise features, but if you drive aggressively, these pads aren't for you. Would I repurchase them? -- Unlikely.

While the G37 is known to chew through rear pads, I recently performed a brake service and swapped my old OEM rear pads in while I waited for my Akebono's (ACT905) to come in. My initial impression was how different braking felt compared to the Posi-quiets. This braking performance is how I was expecting my brakes to perform and I felt like that initial bite returned.

Anyways, once Akebono's arrived and installed, my immediate impression was how well they performed. There was an increase in stopping power, that initial bite was a definite improvement over the stock OEM pads than the posi-quiets. In addition, the brake pedal felt firmer and everything really felt positive and I was very impressed. The break in procedure was pretty straight forward, and as per tire rack's recommendation, just drive moderately for the first 400-500 miles.

In summary, Once my front pads wear out, I'll replace them with the Akebono's, and I can only imagine how much the overall braking will improve if the rears restored decent braking. The price of the Akebono's aren't more than the Centric Pos-quiets, so spend a bit more if you want braking performance equivalent to OEM or better.

As an added bonus, I bled my brakes using the Motive PowerBleeder (Highly recommend) with Lucas Oil Dot3 Brake Fluid. I've only ever had OEM stuff in there, and after driving around, my brake pedal feels much firmer than before, and everything feels great with the Akebono's than my Centric Posi-quiets.
