Can a sway bar make a difference: Testing G37S Hotchkis front sway bar at autoX.

Can a swaybar really make a difference? It's no secret that G37s and 370z have a pretty wild rear end, meaning that you are always fighting to keep it straight and put the power down. In order to fix that, I've decided to install a Hotchkis front sway bar, and do a before/after test.

At Speed Ventures autox, I was able to do just that, by running first two sessions in totally stock trim, and then swapping the bar in the pits and going out again. Immediately after swapping the sway bar, I could see improvement to the rear traction. This was due to increase in front roll stiffness, which reduced rear wheel lift during hard corners, and enabled me to be more confident while putting the power down.

End result I was able to take 1.1 seconds off my fastest lap time before the sway bar swap.

Stock Bar: 41.344
Hotchkis Bar: 40.235

The car has the following modifications:

K&N Cold Air Intake
G37S Coupe Wheels with Firestone Indy 500 tires (245 Front / 275 Rear)
Ebay Carbon Fiber Spoiler
Infiniti OEM Lip
GTR Red Start Button
Hotchkis front sway bar

In F-Street, you're allowed to change 1 bar (add, replace, remove). I could have taken off the rear bar, but I think that would leave the car less balanced than it is now, and would cause less body control. My plan is to keep the Hotchkis front bar, since I like the balance and get pretty good rear traction now, and add Koni dampers at the beginning of next year's season, so that I can control the body motion and weight transfer better.

Did you mean convert the bar to adjustable? Because adjustable end links will only allow you to adjust the lengths of the end links, but will not change the stiffness of the sway bar.

I, too, don't see the point of adjustable end links if the bar ends are not binding against anything.
