Steering Wheel shake
Steering Wheel shake
Hey guys,
Last summer i did the akebono BBK upgrade, and everything has fine so far, but this past month the steering wheel has started to shake when braking over 40mph or so. I didn't have any brake grease when installing the pads etc, could this be why? Also my rear alignment is messed up (lots of toe/waiting to install toe bolt) so this could be a factor as well. Any help is appreciated

There are many variables to why your steering wheel would shake under braking. I doubt the rear misalignment I would contribute to shaky steering wheel.
I would suggest you to make sure the wheels are balanced and inspect the rotors for abnormal wear. Did you get the BBK new or used? If used, how used? You might have sticky pistons and need new seals.
Hope this helps.

Thanks man, They were new calipers, rotors, and Stoptech Sport pads, so they should (hopefully) be alright. Recently had new tires installed due to camber wear in the rear and there hasn't been any difference, so I don't think its the balance either

You're on the right track. Rotors, pads, sticky piston or wheel balance. Pretty much the only possibilities if it ONLY vibrates while braking. Check the balance on the wheel/tire first, a wheel weight could have flown/ripped off, it happens. Next I would check the rotors/pads, even if they were new, one of them could be faulty or warped, it happens to even the best parts. Then I would check the caliper, I doubt this would be it but if not the others then....?
I have a "feel in your butt" wobble (no steering wheel wobble) that starts in around 55-60 MPH. Tires are new (and checked out), front brakes new (had them also checked for out of round), road force balance done and alingment done. I'm thinking that it must be drivetrain or axles but haven't done any highway PD yet as it's the wife car (accelerate, de-accelerate, pop it into nuetral, etc).
I was thinking it may be an axle as well, because I have a slight shake 60-80 as well; its not bad, but its noticeable especially when braking. Ive swapped back to stock wheels to test it out and its still there, so it seems like an alignment problem (my toe is at 1*)

Ah yes, an X model could have some axle vibrations, that would easily be diagnosed since it would have to be speed specific. Since you've already swapped wheels I am definitely leaning towards brakes.
