Would it be fine to buy a different HAWK pad for the fronts?
Shame that Hawk doesn't have the 5.0 lineup for all G applications, I'd stick with the same pads all around, and since you don't have the Akebono calipers you might take a look at the ProAct pads from Akebono. I believe they have them for the non-sport Gs and they get good reviews. Might contact Ken and see what he would go with in your case.

I am surprised you guys use KNSbrakes. I used to get lots of brake parts from Ken years ago for my Subies. Good guy!

However, you do both. So if you were to put on your Daily Driver hat... don't you think losing 10 lbs of un-sprung, rotational mass at the front corners, and 6 lbs each in the rear, is something you would notice?

Here are two good reads:

As a daily driver you will never notice a reduced un-sprung weight of only 30lbs. I have been tracking cars for a very long time and I would never be able to notice a difference of 30lbs. even at the limit on the track. However, the difference in heat dissipation would be noticeable on the track. These brakes are already overkill enough for the street, especially when it comes to heat dissipation.

That's an experienced opinion, and I have no personal background to refute it. But why is it people readily declare an improvement in the car's performance when going with light-weight wheels? 10 pounds reduction in a wheel & tires... 10 pounds reduction in a 14" rotor...

They are probably trying to justify spending a ton of money on really nice wheels. On the track you might notice a few tenths of a second in lap time if you are lucky, but it is difficult to be that consistent every lap to notice the difference. I remember a magazine article compared different size and weight rims/tires with lap times and the differences were very small. In racing, those small details are sweated to the last ounce because sometimes that is the difference between 1st and 2nd place.

On the street- impossible to tell any difference, especially with rotors. What is someone going to claim? "Yea brah I can acclerate so much faster with 10lb. lighter rotors!"

I can start to feel a difference on track with a loss of about 100lbs. If you can feel that difference on the street- you are driving like a moron.

Someone with more physics can elaborate, but a rotor is a relatively small spinning disk compared to a wheel (14" vs 26"). Therefore, the spinning effect of a lighter wheel may be more pronounced than a rotor.

On a motorcycle, 10 lb at the wheels would be very notiecable.

I dropped almost 9 lbs on each corner going to forged rims, no noticable difference in acceleration or stopping, but I am getting between 55-70 miles more per tank of gas. I bought the 2pc rotors, but haven't installed them yet, switching from the regular brake to the akebono set up, waiting until spring to do it

It's cheaper to add power than it is to shed weight on the G. Shedding weight in a "luxury" car usually means sacrificing quite a bit of comfort. That's why they sell the 370Z.

Spoke to Ken at KNS and he suggested getting the Hawk HPS for both front and rear for $150 shipped. Gonna try to change my pads one of these days when we get another 60 degree winter day in January!

To a point. I had a 370Z too and it is a bit lighter. Fortunately with the G37S sedan they basically took all the parts from the Z like the suspension, brakes, engine, transmission, chassis, etc. so the performance between the two is pretty similar. Great news for those of us who still want some practicality like a back seat and a trunk.

EBC FTW. Racing brake if you have the money!! Their 2 piece rotors are the best you can buy.
