Preload/Harsh ride on Stance SS Coilovers
Hey guys so I had Stance SS coilovers installed about a month ago. Spring rates are 13k Front and 8k Rear in Truestyle. Dampening settings set to 8/16 clicks on the front and 10/16 clicks on the rear. So my question to anyone that has Stance Coilovers is, is your ride really stiff? Mine is really bouncy for some reason even on the smallest bumps in the road. And like stiff bounce. I can feel every little thing, my Tein S tech springs rode better than this. I talked to Stance USA and they told the preload is set to zero and I shouldn't need to touch it. Anyone have any suggestions?
I have the same coils as you. When I installed them myself, I made sure the preload was correct. Your supposed to adjust the spring hat collar until the spring no longer shakes (for lack of a better word). Then just turn (I think) half turn and you're set. All future height adjustments are done with the shock body.
Chances are your tech either compresses your spring too much and/or decided to adjust your height with the spring and not the shock body.
I'm pretty low (about 3"-3.5" in the front...check out my pics), and it still rides smooth with no bounciness at all). Dampening is similar to yours. Maybe even a bit more stiff up front.

All you have to do is jack up the rear and take off the tire. If you can turn the spring easily, you have too little preload. If you can't turn the spring at all, there's too much. You should be able to turn it with a bit of effort and that's pretty spot-on. Do the same up front.
Now when you say bouncy, is the car oscillating (bouncing) up and down and then settles or is it so firm it literally bouncing the car off the bumps?
Does it feel more firm in the front or the rear (or both equally?)
FWIW, you have them set pretty hard in the rear. I'd cut that in half.
Go to a parking lot with speed bumps. Go over the speed bump slowly and note if you get any jounce front or rear. Jounce is when the car oscillates up and down due to the spring compressing and decompressing and the damping isn't able to control it quickly enough.
When going over the speed bump slowly, does the front and rear feel equally damped?
They are monotube shocks so they're going to be quite a bit more firm than the stock twin tube shocks with springs.

So I set the rear dampening down to 5/16 clicks like Ape factory suggested. It rides so much better now, but the jounce is still there when I go on dips and such. It dips down really fast but comes back slowly. The front is nice and firm though.

LOL. I try twisting mine by hand and rears felt evenly tight. Idk I feel like I should set a little bit of preload because my car is still very bouncy. At this point my springs rode better.
Not sure if too much or too little gives the bounce. play with dampers in two click increments im set at 5 all around
I set the rears to 5 and the ride got better (originally was at 10). Now the harshness went away. Still bouncy though. I might go to a shop and have them corner balance it.
