Brakes making noise problem
Brakes making noise problem
Hey, Forum
So I recently(2 weeks) purchased my 2013 G37S at CarMax. I've already taken it back once to fix the very loud brake noise that occurs upon application. They said the following: "We replaced the rear pads(lets hope thats true), adjusted the e-brake so it engages sooner(they did not), and the front pads looked LIKE NEW so we left them, and then we resurfaced your rotors."
The noise was gone for like 4 days and then back. It is louder this time. Occurs more frequently and continues throughout the day.
Here is my pickle. I do not trust the mechanics or really anybody at CarMax other than the sale rep that helped me and that is it. Last time I got my car back the plastic cover on the side view driver side mirror was popped off, smh.
Should I even waste my TIME and take it to them again? How can I ensure that they have done whatever it is they say they did? Or should I waste my own MONEY and do it myself or at a dealer or indy garage? The car is still covered under their 30 day care plan which essentially states that anything that goes wrong with the vehicle within 30 days of purchase is totally covered by them. I'm getting a feeling from them though that they do NOT want to spend money and fix something if it isn't really broken broken.
Any input is appreciated I just want some opinions. Do these vehicles tend to have screechy brakes? I can describe the sound as any other brake pad that is just in need of replacing...and loud. I've done a pad job on my Lexus and a friends Honda. Are the G37S front brakes the same idea?
Best,
Carlos

Carlos, I'd go back and patiently explain what's been going on and that it wasn't fixed to your satisfaction. Before you take it in you might want to pull a back & front wheel and inspect the pads, see if the rears are just slightly used and see how those front rotors look. They may have just applied some anti-squeal to the brakes and that got you down the road for a few days. If everything looks proper, and it seems that they did what was said, I'd apply some grease to your pad backing plates and any metal on metal moving parts, CRC caliper grease is a good choice for that. Hopefully you'll get a better resolution this time, just keep your cool.
Sage advice from blnewt, but i would also look at the pads and see whats on there, akebonos or comp? my brakes do squeal on reverse when brand spaking f'ing new, when nicely f'ing broken in w/10 k miles, when f'ing wearing down to ~3mm...so yes there is that annoying f'ing bit, but not sketchy; for normal and spirited driving they are great, so definitely something sounds wrong..maybe its just needing grease in the cals back or something like that. Hope its something simple man, good luck, its a great car, so give them a chance to rectify ... you still have about ~14 days and then make the hard choice...
BTW...most on the board dont seem to trust most work being done on their cars unless they do it themselves, so no worries, but just keep in mind that the 'mechs' have some liability on repairing the matter correctly and safely-brakes...so give it a go again..

More than likely since they are not Infiniti people they probably did not bother taking off the brake shims and putting them on the new brakes or they were not there to begin with. Had same problem as I made the same mistake when I changed my pads. Even with the brake silencer on the pads it sqeeled so loud that everyone would look. Putting the brake shims solved it.
