Scratch in brand new rotor
Scratch in brand new rotor
2010 G37S coupe. I had a local shop put in new rotors on all corner about a week ago. I have put about 60 miles on them.
Today, I noticed the passenger front rotor have two scratch or nicks on the rotor surface where the pads would go over. It looks like it could of caused by rock chips or something hitting the rotor...perhaps during the rotor install.
The two marks are about the size of a grain of rice. The marks are not deep at all. You can feel it with your fingernail but not deep at all. Surface scratch.
The mechanic said it is fine. The marks will disappear with normal use as the brake pads will smooth out the rotor over time. He said to drive it for 6 months and see what happens, and will replace the rotor if anything thing happens.
Is it something I should be worry about? Would hairline cracks develop over time?
Thanks.

I agree. I had something similar with my new rotors, was advised by Adam after he looked at pictures that it would be fine... It had a raise with it, creating a ticking sound... Maybe 6 weeks later it was gone. Brakes work fantastic. You'll be okay.
Thanks. My two scratches are not raised but rather lowered than the rest of the rotor surface. It should still be smoothed out over time with brake use.
yes, revolutionary micro slotted rotor
Anyways, these are brand new OEM rotors to go with Posi quiet ceramic pads. So far they are noise free and good pedal feel.
These pads stated on the box that they are scorched at the factory so no bed in are required. Just drive normally.
